- First you get your iron ore - iron mixed with rock. Then you smelt it. When everything is molten, the less dense rock floats on top of the molten iron and is skimmed off as slag. You are then left with iron that you can either cast, or work, or mix with carbon to make steel. Just google smelting iron ore or something.
