Q:Cranes nowadays are MASSIVE! but something that has been bugging me for ages is how do they get the massive crane bit at the top down once they have finished constructing the skyscraper/building?
After this the crew uses a mobile crane to assemble the jib and the machinery section, and places these horizontal members on an approximately 40 foot mast that consists of two mast sections. The mobile crane then adds the counter weights. The mast which is a large triangulated lattice structure typically 10 feet square then rises from this firm foundation. This triangulated structure gives the mast the strength to remain upright. The tower crane rises to its maximum height by using one mast section at a time, the crew uses a top climber that fits between the slewing unit and the top of the mast. This is done by hanging a weight on the jib to balance the counter weight. The crew then detaches the slewing unit from the top of the mast, this is done by using large hydraulic rams in the top climber to push the slewing unit up to 20 feet. The crane is then used to lift another 20 foot mast section into the gap opened by the climbing frame. Once bolted in place the crane gains a height of 20 feet. This process is reversed once the building is finished and its time to dismantle the crane and as stated earlier a smaller crane is used to dismantle the tower crane except the mast which is dismantled by the crane itself
Q:What are the climbing claws on the tower crane?
Climbing is lifting work cylinder claw pole on the standard main limb rod bearing points of the.
Q:do they get the concrete blocks up that hang at the end? Do they use another type of crane to assemble them?
Yep, they use a smaller crane that sits on the back of a truck and has a telescopic arm, it only takes a few days. There's a lot of construction going on in my city and I've seen them do it.
Q:Is there a world record for making paper cranes?
I would love to find out and compare it to the commercial where the girl is in the bathroom making toliet paper cranes. Since it's not published online - you'd have to find someone with a new copy of Guinness World Records
Q:Because they look a lot alike. Such as if you reinforced the design a little bit will it work?
It might - but the center of gravity and the tripod might not be able to hold the weight of the jib, camera, counter-weights... and personally, I think it would be a pretty expensive mistake to watch my $2,000 camcorder fall and brake because the camera crane collapsed under the weight. A mic tripod is designed to handle about a pound of weight. A consumer camcorder, the jib and counterweights (and maybe a mic or whatever else you throw on there) can be between 5 pounds and 50 pounds. That's why companies like Kessler make what they make. And that's why the companies that makes lesser camera cranes (Cobra, CameraCranes, and others) never use a mic tripod. They use a heavy duty camera tripod or other LARGE, STRONG, item - not a mic stand.
Q:I'm not scared of spiders anymore. If I see one than I can kill it easily, but when I see a daddy long legs crane fly, I freak out! Those things are hugeeee. I could never kill one without being freaked out to death. I heard that they don't even bite, but I'm still scared. There's one in my living room and I ran out. So I planned on staying in my room the whole day and just hope it doesn't show up in the bathroom tomorrow morning when I shower! I'm 14 btw?
This is a selective entomophobia. Basically, you don't fear many insects or spiders, but specific ones trigger your anxiety. Your problem is not the bugs or spiders,(they are harmless) but your fear. This is something 'you' nurture by dwelling on this fear when you see one of these particular critters. I'm glad to hear you no longer fear spiders. you will see the same when you overcome your selective fear. You may even come to realize that the spiders and insects you do fear, are totally harmless, and you may reach a point where you can just ignore these. True, the crane fly is totally harmless and do not bite, sting, or inflict any form of hazard to humans. They can be a nuisance buzzing around your face,as they can be persistent. Adolescent years seem to be when phobias are the most prevalent, but also the easiest time to overcome fears. If you can learn to control your fear, rather than let it control you, you will overcome this. you also need to refrain from dwelling on your fear,as this will only make it worse. Last year, one of my favorite pass times was sitting on the porch watching the sunset. a little orb weaver would come from behind the light and spin her fancy web. Often, I would catch a crane fly that was bothering me and toss it into her web.
Q:Form the movie Dreamer, daughter of Ben Crane
It was Dakota Fanning that played Cale Crane, daughter of Ben Crane in the film Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story. She's a good little actress. I love to watch her films.
Q:I saw this documentary on ancient buildings like the pyramids and it said that we don't have a construction crane that can life the stones used to build some of these ancient structures. So I gotta wonder how much the strongest crane CAN lift....or is that just fantastical nonsense about cranes not being able to lift those blocks?
First, okorder /. This means that at 5 m the capacity is 600 tonnes. Double the radius, half the capacity. A crane located at the foot of the pyramid, will be at 115.2 m from the center. At that radius, the crane could only lift 26 tonnes, so this crane could not lift the greatest stones weighing 80 tonnes. Being the boom only 100m it could'nt even reach the center.
Q:in the red badge of courage explain the mechanical metaphor crane uses to describe war?
I don't have a copy of TRBOC around but what you want to look for is a passage in which war is compared to, say, a machine of some sort.
Q:Synopsis for the poem Lost Dances Of Cranes?
If this is the poem, you will find several comments at the link provided. Your fields are empty now. Only your ghosts dance while cranes of another kind dance cities into being. All that remain of you are a fading crackle of your energy and some grainy video footage that people in the new cities will watch to marvel at the wonders the world once held. craftygreenpoet.blogspot .uk/20...
