Q:I bought a stainless steel water bottle today. I really like it, but there is no drinking spout, it just has a lid that screws on and off, and an open hole to fill it and drink out of. Is this normal for these bottles? Or do they usually come with a spout to drink from? I don't want to look like an idiot at the gym drinking from this cool bottle with no spout if there's supposed to be one! haha.

Q:I've created something but it's a huge secret. Anyways I need to know everything and anything about steel. Like the iron steel. ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Best answer goes to the person with the most correct information. Please this is really important.
If you want to know everything about steel, there's no way you're going to get an answer on Yahoo that is comprehensive enough. What you want to do is get some books on steel metallurgy, engineering properties of materials, and maybe machine design depending on your application. Topics will include molecular structure, material properties, alloying, stress and strain, work hardening, creep, computing damage and lifetime cycles, corrosion, toughness vs hardness, heat treating, and a ton of others. If you want to sharpen steel, that is a whole topic in itself concerning different blade profiles and their sharpness, edge holding, ease of sharpening, type of grind etc.
Q:At what temperature does steel start to warp or soften.
It depends upon the composition of steel. Carbon steel, which does not have many alloying elements, softens around 1200C while with alloying elements, this transition temperature either drops or raises depending upon what is added. Higher carbon makes this temperature drop. This is a very important question for forging since if a lower temperature is used, forging won't be easy and at higher than softening temperature, it is not easy to handle. The temperature at which steel begins to soften is, in general, much above what the metallurgists call AC1 or AC3 temperature.
Q:Can steel coils be coated with anti-glare materials?
Yes, steel coils can be coated with anti-glare materials.
Q:Is condensation on steel caused from water being pulled out or is the condensation formed from the air around the steel object?
steel is made from very high temperature iron. water would vapourize at such high temperature. adding a little bit carbon, mix it well with iron, quench (dip it into water); water around the ingot would sizzle. water inside the ingot would vapourize. then the iron turns into steel called martensite. condensation means water are materializing from the air on cold surfaces. there is no water molecules inside steel.
Q:How much do steel coils weigh?
The weight of steel coils is subject to variation, which is determined by multiple factors including coil thickness, width, length, and the particular type of steel employed. In general, steel coils can range in weight from a few hundred pounds to several tons. It should be emphasized that the measurement of steel coils typically revolves around their weight per unit area, referred to as the "basis weight" or "coil weight".
Q:Climbing ropes used by mountaineers are usually made of nylon. Would steel cable of equal strength as the nylon be just as good? What advantages and disadvantages would it have compared to the nylon?
steel is NOT as flexible and much slipperier if you fall the nylon stretches to slow the victim but a steel cable would stop short and kill you
Q:What are the common certifications required for steel coils?
The common certifications required for steel coils include ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System), and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System). Additionally, certifications like ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and EN (European Norm) standards are important for ensuring the quality and compliance of steel coils.
Q:What are the weight ranges of steel coils?
The weight of steel coils can differ based on their dimensions and intended purpose. In general, steel coils can weigh anywhere from a few hundred pounds to several tons. For instance, hot-rolled steel coils generally fall between 10 and 25 tons, while cold-rolled steel coils can range from a few hundred pounds to 20 tons. The weight of steel coils is also influenced by factors like coil thickness, width, grade, and steel type. Ultimately, the weight range of steel coils is determined by the industry and application requirements.
Q:How are steel coils used in the production of bridges and infrastructure?
Steel coils are indispensable in the manufacturing of bridges and infrastructure. Made from sturdy and long-lasting steel, these coils can endure heavy loads and harsh environmental conditions. When constructing bridges, steel coils are utilized to produce structural elements like beams, girders, and columns. These components offer the necessary strength and support to the bridge, enabling it to bear the weight of vehicles, pedestrians, and other loads. The steel coils are shaped through rolling, cut to the required length, and then welded or bolted together to form these structural elements. Moreover, steel coils are also employed in the creation of bridge decks, which serve as the roadways or walkways on the bridge. These coils are processed into steel plates, which are then assembled and secured onto the bridge structure. The steel plates provide a smooth and durable surface for vehicles and pedestrians to traverse. Regarding infrastructure, steel coils play a crucial role in the construction of various structures such as buildings, stadiums, and industrial facilities. They are utilized to fabricate primary support systems, including columns, beams, and trusses, which furnish the necessary strength and stability to these structures. Steel coils are also used to manufacture roofing and cladding systems, ensuring protection against weather elements and enhancing the overall aesthetics of the infrastructure. Furthermore, steel coils frequently contribute to the production of reinforcing bars, commonly known as rebar. Rebar is essential for strengthening concrete structures like foundations, walls, and slabs. These coils are processed into different sizes and shapes, and subsequently embedded within the concrete to enhance its tensile strength and prevent cracking or collapsing under heavy loads. In conclusion, steel coils are a vital component in the manufacturing of bridges and infrastructure. Their strength, durability, and versatility make them an ideal material for constructing secure and dependable structures that can withstand the test of time.
