Q:i had it done 2/3 months ago, it was fine at first but now on each end i have two lumps on my ear:S there relitavely smal...the size of like a really tiny pea.there really painfull and sore and quite red and sometimes they scab over with yellowy crust [yes i know sounds disguisting]im just a bit worried that its gone all weird or are these normal? am i cleaning it right?: I had the same situation occur when I got my scaffold/industrial done. I wouldn't be too concerned. The lumps are called hypertrophic scars, and supposedly they are pretty common and are caused by overcleaning, harsh products, or (as I think was my case) general irritation from the jewelry moving repeatedly back and forth through the piercing or being bumped around or rubbed/touched. Mine lasted quite a long time. Try leaving your piercing alone for a couple of days. Then salt water solutions or compresses are supposed to help the lumps to heal, and I also used tea tree oil and neosporine intermittently. Hot compresses like a heated washcloth applied to the area help to reduce the lumps, as well. Sometimes it's recommended to try another type of jewelry, like titanium, or switch temporarily to two separate bars. You might also try finding a really gentle cleanser/soap. I just kept my original piercing, using the above techniques off and on, and after months of the lumps remaining red and sore, they just went away totally. Just keep your eye out for any pussing (hypertrophic scars ooze, but they don't usually pus), increased swelling, and the area feeling very hot- these are signs of infectiona nd you should see your doc right away. Q:i got my scaffold done quite a while ago and it still really hurts and is all lush and crusty,loli know it takes agessss to heal but could i take it out and put normall small earrings in each whole instead? Which would i have to use? thanks: in my opinion you should ride it out and just clean it more often. not only will the piercings give you trouble if you try to change the earring now, the piercings themselves will move slightly and you won't be able to put an industrial bar back through it. if you can live with these go through with it, if not, wash often, rotate the bar constantly and avoid sleeping on it and getting your hair caught up in it. like you said, piercings in the cartilage are very sensitive and need time and nurturing so that they can heal properly.

Q:Are the terms quot;nuclear matrixquot; and quot;nuclear scaffoldquot; interchangeable? I know that when we talk about DNA compaction we say that MARs on the DNA attach to the nuclear scaffold. I am wondering if the scaffold is just a specific part of the matrix??: For most purposes, they are interchangeable terms for the same things. Some people favor one term, some the other. The ones who favor matrix over scaffold or vice versa may have some argument as to why it is better or a difference but in general people use them interchangeably.

Q:Was thinking of getting one. How much do they cost?: Only a professional piercer can decide if your ear can handle and industrial piercing. Consultations are free and I highly recommend booking one before you get the piercing. Mine was $70, but my regular piercer does them for $50. It just depends on what shop you go to.

Q:so yeah as it says above^should i just wait till it no longer hurts, or do you have to wait a certain amount of time...: Industrial piercings take 9-12 months to heal completely and you never want to remove an unhealed piercing unless the jewelry is causing problems and at that point it should be done by a professional in a sterile environment. Taking the jewelry out before it is healed could cause it to close up, become infected or irritated, and can cause hypertrophic scarring (scar tissue) to form on your piercing. I took my industrial out after having it for 3 months. It was out for less than a minute and when I went to put it back in it went through the first hole easily but wouldn't go through the top hole no matter how hard I pushed. It immediately started bleeding and hurtling like crazy. Awesome. Waste of time, pain, and money. So, you might get lucky and just have it get a little irritated or prolong the healing time by changing it early. But you could also end up like me or worse, with any infected piercing. Why risk it?
