- Q:Should I use them or take them off. They are currently on my strings, but my two lower strings sound really bad.
- The purpose of these plastic tubes is to prevent your bridge from being damaged. As we violinist know,the violin needs constant tuning and if you are using gut strings,would react weirdly to the physical environment should it change. The plastic tubes are to prevent your bridge from being cut by the strings especially by the E string which is very thin.Normally I take off the plastic tubes on the lower 2 strings but I think its okay if you don't too. I don't think it will affect the sound though.Maybe your strings are new so they haven't really settled down yet.Different strings when placed newly create all sorts of odd sounds.I particularly hate the Dominant ones as they have that metallic edge in the sound when its just placed.
- Q:Are plastic tubes resistant to moisture?

- Q:I was changing my engine oil via the dipstick tube and a special suction device that pumps the old oil out of the sump to be replaced with fresh oil. Unfortunately, i had to patch up a hole in the tube on the suction device with parcel tape/sellotape wrapped around and a small piece of tape (around 2x2 square) fell into the engine dipstick tube and appears to have slid down into the oil sump.Will the oil filter make any difference in keeping melted plastic out of the engine? - if the peice of tape gets 'sucked onto the oil pump pick up screen it will stop lubrication of the whole engine and engine failure. I would get it out asap and do the next oil change in the proper manner.

- Leaking okorder /... Both of these prevent the dreaded twist and crack that can open up a hole where paint can both leak and be exposed to air. Also treat the caps gently. Make certain to routinely clean off the paint that biulds up around the threads. Wipe this off as opposed to allowing it to dry forcing you to remove it with harsher methods like scraping or using a solvent. Be conscious of the way the cap feels when tightening it on the threads. Sense whether it has derailed or whether the threads are clogged. Paint can build up on the tube threads and/or the threads inside the cap. These caps are fragile and often strip or crack. If a cap gets stuck and the tube body begins to twist while attempting to unscrew the cap run the cap end under hot water until it loosens up. Avoid twisting the tube body. It will tear apart. It is a good idea to save the good caps of old used tubes when they are ready to be trashed. They are not all interchangeable but they might be and it is worth having some around. Replacement caps are not sold by themselves but if you catch a bad cap on a new tube you may have a replacement sent to you by the manufacturer if purchased directly. You could try asking for a complete tube of paint replacement from retailers. I have done both successfully.
