- Q:Basically I have a 3000watt amp, and I need to buy the right wires. Would I still manage to get the full power out of the amplifier with 1000w speaker wiring kit or do I need to buy a 3000w speaker wiring kit?If so, where is the difference with the higher wattage wiring kits.Thanks
- 3000w amps are rare and expensive. Is that peak power or rms? Can you provide the brand/model? If it's ACTUALLY 3000w rms you need a high output electrical system with a custom alternator and probably a 2nd battery, and at a MINIMUM you need a GOOD quality 1/0 awg wiring kit. On the other hand - if this is 3000w peak the actual power (rms) could be as low as a few hundred watts. Amps this size will run w/o a problem with most stock electrical systems. A good 4 awg wiring kit would probably be more than adequate. Many lower level brands use bogus peak ratings to make their equipment appear to be more powerful than it actually is. Wiring is based simply on the thickness of the copper. Some of the cheap brands are less than honest about the size of their wiring. They get around advertising regulations by only using the word gage or gauge, not the wire standard AWG. If the wire you use is too small it will have excessive voltage drop so the amp will not be able to produce the power it would otherwise. More importantly, in extreme cases if the wire isn't fused properly it can get hot, melt the insulation off and become a fire hazard.

- Q:how do i wire a dual 2 ohm sub to an amp at 2 ohm
- You can't. Dual 2 ohm subs can only be wired at 1 ohm or 4 ohm. To run an amp at a 2 ohm load you need a dual 4 ohm sub. You can get a second dual 2 ohm sub to match and then they can be wired together at a 2 ohm load.
- Q:the plug only has room for black,red,ground wire.. what do i do with the white wire
- There okorder /... is a 3 wire plug used for 208 or 240v (there is no 220v in the US). It has two hots (gold screws) and a ground (green screw). A typical 10-3 cord has a black white and green white, connect the green wire to the green screw and the black and white wires to the gold screws. An L6-30 is not compatible with devices that have a 240/120v configuration that use both 240v and for 120v and need a neutral connection, for this you would need to use a 4 wire L14-30. Also be aware there are some special rules about ranges and clothes dryers, please update you question if that's what you are dealing with.
- Q:I'm trying to use a stereo wire instead of a mono wire for an output from a circuit I've built. The problem is, the gold wire has been cut too short, and I'd rather not strip it back any further since I don't have a lot of cord to work with. Since there are three wires (red, white, gold - ground) can I use either the red or the white as output, and the remaining color for ground, or do I have to use the gold cable for the ground and let the remaining wire dangle (taped)?Thanks
- The gold wire is actually copper. It is braided and surrounds the red and white wires. It not only forms the common return for both the other wires, it is also a screen which eliminates unwanted pick up. The right channel signal appears between the red wire and the sceeen and the left channel signal appears between the white wire and the screen - which is usually grounded. If you use the red and white wires on their own you will probably get pick up on them. The screen really is necessary. If you have access to the screen at only one end (it sounds as if you might) then connecting the screen to whichever wire you choose to be grounded might be sufficient.

- I don't think that's safe because light fittings are not rated to carry that sort of current.
- Q:Would crepe paper stick on chicken wire?
- Crepe paper needs an adhesive to make it stick to a surface, such as white glue. However, it gets messy once dampened, as the colors may bleed. Instead, I would consider working with paper mache or plaster gauzing strips, which would provide a strong skin over the chicken wire. Both can be primed with gesso then decorated with acrylic paints. If this is a sculptural piece you want to keep, we would also suggest varnishing it for protection.
- Q:I have a grounding wire for my HIDs which I need to increase the length for. How do I do this?
- Get a roll of cable from a shop like halfords and connect together with connector block. Of just connect the original wire to a metal part of the car close to the light. Just have to scratch a bit paint off for a good connection
