Q:Can solar panels be installed on a pergola or shade structure?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a pergola or shade structure. In fact, this is a popular option for homeowners who want to maximize their solar energy production while also providing additional shade and functionality to their outdoor space. The pergola or shade structure can serve as a sturdy and aesthetically pleasing platform to mount the solar panels, allowing for dual benefits of energy generation and outdoor comfort.
Q:I jotted down some notes for my Technology and Architecture class and I'm trying to figure out what i meant when i said 'Treated with gases at extremely high temperatures.' I have NO idea what I was talking about :) Im trying to figure out if what I am talking about is about Silicon, Polychristaline, or a Solar Cell/Panel.
Let’s start off and discuss the three main types of photovoltaic (PV) panels: Monocrystalline Solar Panels - Monocrystalline cells are cut from a block of silicon that has been grown from a single crystal. These tend to be the most efficient, but also the most expensive solar panels. They have been considered the go-to panels for the last couple decades, and also boast being the oldest and most dependable. Polycrystalline Solar Panels - Polycrystalline cells are cut from multifaceted silicon crystal. They don’t come from a single piece of silicon crystal, but rather from many different crystals. These solar panels tend to be less efficient than monocrystalline solar panels of the same size. This means a 200 Watt Monocrystalline panel will usually be smaller than a 200 Watt Polycrystalline panel. Thin Film or Amorphous Solar Panels - These panels are not made up of any crystals. They are actually a thin layer of silicon deposited on a substrate or base material like metal or glass. Thin film solar panels tend to be the least efficient per square foot, but they are also the cheapest. The best application for amorphous panels is if you have a large amount of surface area and space doesn’t matter.
Q:Hi, I have in my sailboat 2 2 V batteries. I would like to buy solar panel(s) in order to recharge them. As i am in mexico and there is always high sun . i think it is a good idea.Usage of the batteries is very light . I have found 5-2V pannels with 80mA that fit in the sailboat. I want to know if and how i can have like 5 to 0 of them set together to charge the batteries and what other material would i need.also, i would like to know what happend if the pannels only send on 5V in a 2 V battery? Is it still charging but on 40 % of the capacity a 2 v pannel would charge or its just not doing nothing ?
0 of the panels wired in parrell will give you enough power to trickle charge the batteries. You will need a charge controller to prevent a overcharge from damaging your batteries. A panel array that is rated at 2 volts actually puts out a unregulated voltage up to 2 volts. I have bought some charger controllers from OKorder at good prices. They will also prevent the discharge of your batteries at night or when the panels are in the shade. If the panels only put out 5 volts they will not charge the batteries. Check each panel outside in the sun with a DC volt meter for proper operation before connecting them.
Q:Are solar panels suitable for all types of roofs?
Solar panels are suitable for most types of roofs, including flat, sloped, and curved roofs. However, the suitability of solar panels depends on factors like the roof's orientation, angle, shading, and structural integrity. It is essential to consult with a solar panel installer or a professional to determine the suitability of solar panels for a specific roof.
Q:we are trying to reduce a solar panel from 9 volts to 3 volts. What do we need to make this work...

Q:Can solar panels be installed on data centers?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on data centers. In fact, many data centers are increasingly adopting solar energy solutions to reduce their carbon footprint and dependence on non-renewable energy sources. Installing solar panels on data centers helps generate clean and sustainable electricity, thereby promoting environmental sustainability and cost savings in the long run.
Q:Is it possible for the everyday person to increase the efficiency of solar panels that they own? If so, how is it done?
If you have a way to keep silicon panels cool, that really helps. On a hot summer day, our array was down 20% in production. I sprayed a hose to wash the panels, and for a few minutes, the power spiked to 20% ABOVE normal. The usual thing to do is mount the panels exposed to the wind if you can, or at least 8 off the roof otherwise. A few lucky souls with access to free stream water on their property have been known to use water cooling under their panels.
Q:Can solar panels be installed on a rented property?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a rented property. However, it is important to consult with the landlord and review the lease agreement to ensure that the installation is allowed. In some cases, the landlord may require written permission or may be responsible for the installation process. Additionally, it is recommended to discuss the potential benefits and cost savings of installing solar panels with the landlord to determine if it is a viable option for both parties.
Q:Can solar panels be installed in a community or neighborhood?
Yes, solar panels can be installed in a community or neighborhood. In fact, many communities and neighborhoods have embraced solar energy and installed solar panels on residential and commercial buildings. Installing solar panels in a community or neighborhood can contribute to a cleaner environment, reduce energy costs, and promote sustainable living. Additionally, community solar initiatives allow multiple households to collectively benefit from shared solar installations, making it accessible to a wider range of residents.
Q:How many solar panels do you need on your house to power your heater in winter?
Your house, and probably your yard wouldn't be big enough to hold them. I did this exercise once (not doing it again) for someone who wanted to replace his 6hp outboard motor with a solar powered one. The calculations ended up that he would need something like .5 acres of solar panels to get that much energy. Not happening. That said, an passive solar home, can get a significant amount of warmth from the sun directly. But it doesn't work very well at night, when it's coldest. (wonder why that is... probably a climate scientist could help us with that? -- oh, wait. They say warming doesn't have anything to do with the sun.) Edit. I didn't use theoretical stuff to come up with my numbers, I used the claims of actual off-the-shelf solar panels sold by West Marine, calculated the power, and did the math based on existing panels.
