Maybe. Some smaller PSUs don't have the right power rails (the way power is distributed to the wires) to do that for a power hungry card. Maybe, but I doubt it, considering the other stuff it must run. Bigger supplies have the correct wire harness for your card.

It is very common for some pins in a standard connector to be unused on certain devices, especially power connections, because there are always redundant pins to the same power connection.

There's a third connector you might have noticed, which is the jumper pin settings. You don't need to play with that -- the jumper pins are there for you to set your hard drive into 1.5 GB and 3.0 GB speed modes. By default, it's set to 3.0 GB. You change it to 1.5 GB if your motherboard demands it.

There is no problem with twisting the cables. I have one where the power and data cables are coiled to take up less space. You can purchase 90 Deg data and power cable adapters.

Q:I am upgrading a two-year-old higher end HP tower to include a mirrored hard drive. I did a little vacuuming and inspection and plan to order the exact model drive which is in there now. I noticed that the SATA cables used include a simple plastic latching mechanism in the connector. I checked CDW and found quot;latchingcables made by Startech which I assume should work (but the latching part is made of stamped metal). My biggest question is the power connector. The factory installed molex-to-SATA adapter also has this latch mechanism (on the black hard drive side), but I cannot find a cable anywhere mentioning a latch on the power connector.
