Q:Radiant heat floors? Are they any good?
All righty then - I'm an installer here in Canada and can positively say that the main issue in service for radiant floor heating lies within the peripferal equipment and not the PEX (infloor) tubing itself. The PEX tubing is polymeric and all manufacturers have at least a 25 year warranty on their tubing. So most service, years after installation, is either with the pumps or boilers, which should be readilly accessable in the basement or mechanical closet. While radiant floor heating does tend to keep floors 'warm', the main objective is to heat the floor mass, which is large, which in turn radiates out to the home. If the heat loss in your home is very small, (i.e. - ultra efficient design and build), the heat input to replace the heat loss may be small enough that a 'warm' floor may not be noticed. You can put ANY floor covering over radiant, even wood, although there are parameters, which need to be met. Also - you need to humidify your home, regardless of what type of heating you have so as not to dry out your hardwood floors or furniture. It's a bit more imperative with hardwood over radiant. If you can, try to get the tubing into a floor pour, or at least over the subfloor. Staple-up works, but by far is the least efficient way to use this system. Please - please - please get a pro to do this work. Not your GC, not his brother-in-law, not your uncle Fred - and typically, not an air conditioning contractor. You need someone who understands the nuances of this type of heating and how it should be installed specific to your situation. Best of luck
Q:How tall is a floor?
A floor is approximately 10 feet.
Q:what can i seal laminate flooring with?
Do you really want to finish damaged laminate flooring? Besides, that type of flooring is not intended for outdoor use. I would just rip it out and install flooring that is more environmentally rugged. Cork and rubber are two options you might explore.
Q:Sprung floor????????
it depends on the facility. usually theaters have elevated stages, not necessarily sprung or set like dance studios floors are, but the elevation takes off the impact on your body. to be on the safe side, always practice proper and safe technique and execute your movements with plies
Q:How does peel and stick flooring hold up?
I have used the peel and stick flooring and would not recommend it . If they are in a hot room for a period of time they will eventually shift and start peeling from the floor. You do have the option of buying glue to use with them but I will tell you from experience that after a while the glue will bleed thru the tile and you will end up having to replace them. Even though repairs are more expensive I think you would be better off to go that route. Once its done you dont have to worry about it anymore whereas, with the stick and peel tiles you are eventually going to have to replace them.
Q:Floating floor versus gluing down?
Floating floor is a good solution for a slab basement. Be sure you get the sealed pad to go under it and it will feel great to walk on. I have a floating floor in my basement too. I think it's much nicer than tile, linoleum or carpet on top of a slab. The issues you may hit. The concrete slab may not be level across it's surface, try getting a long (12 foot or more) level and see where the dips/humps are in the slab. If it's really bad you can get a self leveling concrete product at HD/Lowes that you can pour on top of the slab. The dips in slab will cause the floor to feel like it's giving away under you when step there. If your basement floods the floating floor (or any floor for that matter) will be toast. It will still look okay, but all the seems will be obvious. We had a 100 year rain storm and we got water that came up through the slab, ended up with ~4 in the basement. Arghh. Make sure you have a good working drainage for your foundation before investing big $ on the inside of the basement.
Q:What is the best mop for my kitchen floor?
My sister has hardwood floors and swears by her shark steam mop. After a regular mopping, you can wipe the floor with a damp paper towel and it still comes up gray. But after steam mopping, you won't find any traces of dirt. I wish I had heard of it back when I had hardwood floors....
Q:Floor protection mat, who can tell me what is this material?
Good PC floor protection mat, no smell, and is hard, wearable. Can be bought in OKorder
Q:Best Floor Cleaner?
I have vinyl flooring and have always heard that you should use ammonia or bleach on vinyl.....I don't use Pine-Sol because it doesn't have the disinfectant properties that Lysol and Mr.Clean have (kills Staph, E-coli etc...).....I use Mr.Clean or Lysol....I just follow the mixture directions on the back and always use HOT water, this cleans great....also Future Floor Finish ( polish) leaves vinyl floors so shiny they look like marble.
