- Q:I need to get 18 month old out of crib, for new baby due in 4 months. Have been looking at choices - toddler bed vs twin bed vs twin bed with trundle. Long term, feel like twin with trundle is the best, but have questions about trundle bed. Can I buy any twin bed, and then a pop-up trundle frame + mattress to roll under it, or do i have to specifically buy the sets that come together? do you put a bedskirt on the trundle to make it look nicer? any other tips about trundle beds to keep in mind?
- I wouldn't do a trundle. Ive herd of kids getting there heads stuck in between the metal bars on the frame and getting hurt badly.
- Q:My boyfriend has two 3 yr old boys. They come to our house once a month. We would like to buy them beds. Would you get toddler beds or would you get bunk beds? My boyfriend is concerned about bunk beds, he doesn't want them sleeping up high. But I think they could both sleep on the bottom for a while but he doesn't want them to sleep in the same bed because they move around alot a night. What would you do?
- I think it depends on the children. I can't say I would put them in a toddler bed, the weight limit on most only goes up high enough for a 4 year old so that might be a waste of money. Is there room for 2 twin size beds? I can tell you this. At age 2 1/2 my oldest was sleeping in a loft type bed (like a bunk bed without the bottom bunk, it has a fort type area underneath). He's still in it at 4 1/2 and has never once fallen out or had any problems at all. It does have a tent over the top of it so that would help prevent him from falling. But, he does not move at all when he sleeps; he is a VERY deep sleeper. I have an 18 month old and there is no way he will be going in that bed until close to age 4 (at least), he moves around all night long. I think that is a big factor when considering a bunk bed for a young child.
