Q:Home And Garden Party Help?
Tie on a bandanna and paint on a smiley face. Get it a bandanna on a banana.
Q:Using Red Clover in a small home garden as cover crop?
The trick with a cover crop is that you are tilling it into the soil before it flowers to return the nitrogen it pulls from the air into the soil. Planting it between garden plants might not be the best. If you do it, you'll at least want to mow it regularly to keep it from flowering, setting seed, and coming up EVERYWHERE in your garden. Usually cover crops are sown, grown, and tilled under either in the off season (fall/winter/early spring) or for a season in a field that is being rested (growing no crops that you're going to harvest).
Q:Survey-I want a trench-coat now, where would be a good place to buy one?
New or refurbished with freshly removed stains? Trench :)
Q:whats the value of a 1945 home and garden magazine?
Not much...entertainment/curiosity value only. I've got old Ladies Home Journals circa 1895 I got for a buck about 20 years ago. . Fun reading but really not worth much, about 5 bucks ea, maybe. I like them for their 'advertizements.
Q:Do you think this house is one of those modular homes with an addition?
Uh...no. Lots of homes have garden tubes. The appraisal will tell you if it's modular or not. Don't get modular and a trailer (manufactured) home confused. They are different. PS: Having a garden tub in the master suite is NOT a dead giveaway...that is nonsense. Homes in this area are constructed all the time with a garden tub in the master as an option and considered a desirable feature of the home.
Q:What is the best way to get rid of moles in the yard/garden? I live in central Ky.?
When I was a kid we had a mole problem. A neighbor told us about castor beans. We planted castor bean plants and harvested the beans from the plants. We then placed the individual beans from the pods in the mole holes and trails...the mole problem was gone in a year! The bean plants actually grow quite large(4-5 feet tall) so plant them where you can use a plant of that size. They die down and then come back each year. Good luck!
Q:The best-selling women's magazines are 'Better Homes and Garden's' and 'Family Circle'. As their titles...
Yes...I think you are right on target. men don't commit, they surrender. But in my husband's case, he may have sacrificed access to beautiful women (if indeed he COULD get anyone more beautiful than me!) but he says stability and family are most important, fun and extras come next. Interesting observation...you're very insightful!
Q:Does anyone have a home made way to get water to the birds in the winter without it freezing?
YOUCAN PUT A AQUAIRIUM HEATER ON A TIMER OR IF THE AREA IS BIG ENOUGH YOU CAN USE A LITTLE POND HEATER!
Q:Priorities for home improvement in older home?
Who are these people? How many homes have they refurbished? Look. If you don't have it sealed from the weather you'll lose it all. Start with the roof. If there is rot up there, replace it before replacing the roofing. Make sure someone knows what they are doing with flashing: You don't want leaks or set the place up to burn it down at the flues. Then, you need to make sure your drainage is good. Start with establishing a minimum slope of 1/foot for the first ten feet out from the house, all around. Be sure the gutters and downspouts are in good repair and the water is taken away from the building.. It is essential that you have 4 perforated drain pipe and 7/8 washed gravel below footing height all around. And if you hand dig, do not dig deeper than chest height without adequate shoring so you don't kill yourself. Now, assure the rest of the house is out of the weather... windows, doors, felt or other sheeting product, trim and siding. You are now ready for the interior in this order: plumbing, electrical. insulation, sheet rock, tape, texture, paint, trim, doors, cabinets, finish plumbing, finish electrical, and finish hardware...landscaping. Do any of this out of order and you are setting yourself up for rip-outs.
Q:Will GMO's cross-pollinate with the crops in my home garden?
yes but only of you are growing soy and corn. And if you are growing sweet corn you have always had to plant either ahead or behind the field corn as any corn that crosses with sweet corn ruins it (other than other sweet corn). So if you are growing produce and herbs in your garden and not corn or soy you should not have to worry about G<O's pollinating with your crops. Also if you are not surrounded by farm fields don't worry. I have been growing a sustainable, GMO free market garden in rural SW Ohio for 17 years and they only time I had crossing was when I was growing edamame within 50 feet of a field growing GMO soy (I knew because the flower color was the same as the GMO soy and should have been another color). So i destroyed the crop. Don't worry about GMO corn pollinating your melons or lettuce, it will not happen as that sort of thing can happen only in a lab and not through natural sexual breeding.
