Most of the software available, including Better Homes and Garden Suite, is tricky to use and really leaves you without any real plan. Honestly, I would recommend using good old fashioned pencil and paper to come up with your initial design. Or perhaps try the free Sketch-up software from Google. Just search for Google Sketch Up. Another idea might be to call your local community college and see if one of their design students might put something together for free as a resume' builder or perhaps a class project. Also, many nurseries will put together a professional design for free if you buy the plants from them. Hope that helps!

Q:Me and my wife just finished moving in to our first home and we want to have a vegetable garden next Summer. Problem is we both know absolutely NOTHING about gardening. Neither of us ever did any growing up, nor did our parents really do much either.I was hoping the community here could give some good tips to help us get started. We a do not have a ton of space, probably from a rough estimate I did a minute ago 12x50 at the max and that would need to include walking space since most of it is our side yard. We also live in Ohio so winter will need to be accounted for. If possible we would really like to do tomatoes and I have heard we may be able to grow them off the side of our garage saving us some space, and zucchinis would also be nice! Outside those we are open to any suggestions.Anyways if anyone has helpful websites, step by step guides, general tips, advice on fertilizers or pesticides to use/not use all of it is appreciated, since as I said we are completely ignorant on this subject!

Q:With a the recent problems of vegtables being recalled because of E. Coli contamination is there any way to help prevent my vegtables from being contaminated too? I know that E. Coli is a bacteria naturaly found in the digestive trac of animals. Since a lot of people use munure aren't they at risk of an E. Coli contamination in thier gardens? Also E. Coli can be present in the water supply people are using to water their plants. Is the only way to know for sure to have my soil and water tested? So far the only recommendation I've found is to throughly wash vegetables before consumtion.

Good question, Home consumption is generally okay. The store bought manure has to actually go through a curing phase to help kill bacteria.(heated up in its own bacteria pile) The water used is suppose to be tested for acceptable levels of bacteria.(If government controlled). If you have your own catchment system then you are suppose to have bacteria filters as well. The recent contamination is due to poor handlling of vegetables. They did not pass the inspections that our health inspectors are suppose to give.

Have you checked out their web site? They do give out many recipes that they serve on the menu. I know I have made one of the soups before.
