Q:I have burns in my landlords carpet from cigarettes. How can I remove the burns short of replacing the carpet?

not unless you replace the carpet a burn changes the chemical properties of the material there is no way to get it out or even make it less noticeable No way that first idea will work especially with multiple burns it would look terrible

Q:Most of the powder carpet freshners have so much perfume in them they trigger a migraine and I can't use them. Not to mention they are pretty pricey for what you actually get. Is plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda a good alternative? Any other suggestions for freshing carpet?

Baking soda works well as a carpet freshener and you really want to kill odors in the carpet (pets,smoke,etc) just sprinkle with some dry coffee grounds and then vacuum after 20 minutes or so. Another good way to freshen carpets without damage is 1 capful of liquid fabric softener to 3 cups water in a spray bottle. Vacuum first and then mist carpet to freshen!

Q:My carpet has a mystery stain. It's very sticky and black and ground in. I have tried goo gown and soap and water. I need some sort of heavy duty carpet cleaning suggestions.

Hello, Adding soap to the sticky and black ground in mystery stain is just making it worse. You are adding a surfactant (Soap) that gets sticky when it dries. You need to find out if the stain is a oil ( like food dropped ) or sugars like soda pop. First thing you want to do is get rid of the soap residue. If you have a wet dry vac. Get club soda and pour it onto the stick black ground in mystery stain. Use a soft shoe brush and start brushing the stain. If it is turning foamy you have to get DEFOAMER. Spray it on the carpet till you do not get any foam on your brush. (It cuts soap bonds so you can get the soap residue off the carpet). Keep adding club soda. Extract the club soda from the carpet. The black and sticky should start to go away. You should be left with just the original stain, or it should be gone. If you have no foamy residue and it still is sticky you need a solvent because it is an oil based spot. I don't know where you live but if you look in your local yellow pages for Carpet Cleaning Supply stores you can get Defoamer and Solvents to clean the carpets. BE CAREFUL WITH THE SOLVENTS USE AS LITTLE OF THE SOLVENT AS POSSIBLE. IT CAN DELAMINATE THE CARPET IF YOU USE TOO MUCH. (seprate the carpet backing from the fiber) Solvents will desolve glue. If by sale you mean sell, I would try the black market or word of mouth and street corners which is what it comes down to for the most part. You might be able to sell it to a museum or something of that nature. I think it might be illegal to sell endangered species relics on OKorder, but I suppose if you already own it it might not be illegal. Something to look into before you put your freedom at risk.

Yuck! Definitely rent a carpet cleaner from your nearest grocery store. I think they cost about $24.99 plus the cost of shampoo. You gotta get that dirt and bacteria out of your new home. You'll be glad you did.
