- Q:hi there, i just got my new samsung lcd monitor for my computer, can the lcd monitor get overheat? im mean like if the dust covered the vent hole on monitor.and someone say they monitor smoke come out on rear of the monitor suddenly. please tell, im really scare right now. i give ya 10 points please tell me.
- As long as you do not totally block the vents then it will not overheat. There are components on there that can fail though. If something in the power supply fails or in the inverter card it can smoke when it fails. Also any electrolytic capacitor will produce a puff of steam when it fails that can look like smoke. To carry a safety mark like UL, CSA, CE, etc. the case of the monitor has to act as a fire enclosure. Typically all components will extinguish themselves once they no longer receive power and the monitor will shut of power to most circuits if there is a failure. If you really thought smoke came out of the monitor then unplug it and take it to a repair shop.

- Couple simple checks. Is light on monitor solid? If flashing or amber (or some other goofy color not seen during normal operation when it worked) means it has some sort of issue inside or is NOT receiving video signal. So computer on, monitor light solid put flashlight near screen to see if you can see login or desktop icons. If you can this means your backlight went bad. Would be cheaper to buy new monitor if is the case. Try monitor on another known to be good computer. Or try another monitor. This will isolate if its your monitor or video source. I have a feeling you may find out its the backlight as they do go bad. A critical indication is the screen will have pinkish/red tint when first starting then clear up.

- Yes. The biggest change has been the drop in price. TN technology has been a mainstay of LCD panels, but has become faster to respond and the introduction of prismatic layers has improved the viewing angle. Alternative liquid crystal orientations have improved viewing angles - In-Plane-Switching (IPS) and a variety of vertical alignments and also has better gray scale tracking for luminance and colour. Usually at some level of price, brightness and response time. Improvements in the scaling algorithms has made the display of non-native resolutions better (but still not especially good) Improvements in the DLP processor in the monitor have given better uniformity and better response time (by overdriving the pixel for 1 cycle to get the crystals to move faster) Improvements in the CCFL backlights have made them brighter. Improvements in the colour dyes have produced better colour ranges. The breakout of LCD TVs has also meant that prices have dropped and screen sizes have gotten larger as the manufacturers have set up production lines for bigger and bigger pieces of glass.

- LCD monitors have something called a native resolution, which is the resolution that it was designed to use. if you force the monitor to run at a higher resolution you can do damage to the monitor. Most monitors have safeguards though, I have a higher end Nvidia card, but I cant put the resolution over 1280x1024 because thats my monitors native resolution and software restricts me from going over it.
