Q:How do you hook up solar panels to your electricity?
nowing what to do with unused renewable electricity is always a dilemma – hooking up to the grid has to be the preferred option. If your residential home is grid tied, i.e. connected the electricity grid as opposed to off-grid and you are using solar panels to generate electricity. Then it makes a lot of sense to hook your solar panels to the grid, because instead of losing the unused electricity or having to maintain a bank of deep cycle batteries, you simply feed it back to the grid. You feed electricity back to the grid via your electric meter which measures the electricity in Kilowatt per hour. This has the effect of reversing your meter which in turn reduces your electricity bills and if you are generating a lot of electricity you could find the utility company owing you money! The Solar Powered System Therefore, your solar powered installation would look like this. The solar panel will connect to an “array disconnect” – you need an array disconnect for system maintenance because it allows you to easily shut off the power. The array disconnect is connected to an “inverter”. The solar panel generates DC power and the electricity from the grid is AC power. Therefore, you need an inverter to convert DC power to AC power. The inverter is connected to an “AC breaker panel”. This is the interface where your solar generated electricity meets the electric meter and allows you to feed electricity back to the grid. Now in most countries and states you are not allowed to tamper with the electric meter so at this point you should contact your local electricity energy supplier and ask them to supply an engineer to hook you up to the grid. If you have anything to add to this article or you have connected your system to the grid – tell us how you did it by writing a comment below.
Q:How do you make your own solar panels?
I'm okorder.com/ for one of the few honest warnings about solar scams.
Q:I want to buy solar panels?
You're unlikely to 'save a buck' much less 'make any money off of it' at the present state of the art. The panels and equipment will cost more than you'll save in the next ten years. That might change with energy prices, but not enough any time soon.
Q:Solar panels in the Bay Area?
I just saw an episode of Renovation nation on Planet green. They built a house is Washington State that ran on solar. It was still hooked to the grid but it was project to be a net 0 home. So if they can do it there you should be able to do it. I have also been looking at solar. Good Luck.
Q:how to make your own solar panels ?
It used to be possible to get broken solar cells for free from solar cell and solar panel manufacturers and then it's just a matter of labouriously measuring the voltage and current characteristics of each fragment and soldering them in a combination of parallel and in series to get a crude solar panel with the desired output but the manufacturers have caught on and now sell the broken fragments by the pound so it's not really a cheap solar panel anymore but it's still very labor intensive and results in a fragile solar panel that is readily damaged and quickly degrades. Not really worth the trouble any more.
Q:Power tester for solar panel?
They're called...Electric Testers, or Voltage Testers, or whatnot, they don't really have a special name in my experience. Just go to your local hardware store and buy one.
Q:Selling homemade solar panels?
Aren't there any safety or efficiency standards you have to comply with? If I were buying solar panels I'd want to be sure the manufacturer was competent and licensed as a manufacturer/retailer. If someone brought a case against you for something that went wrong, and the brand name components were named as part of the problem, then yes, those brand name companies would certainly think there was a legal complication. Just do your research first. Your local chamber of commerce or university legal department would be able to help you.
Q:Could solar panels contribute to global warming?
Essentially, solar panels are 'warming neutral'. They absorb energy that would otherwise have heated whatever was behind them, thus have a local cooling effect. This is balanced by the generation of heat when the electricity is used to power, say, a hoover, TV, computer etc, also from 'transmission losses' through the national grid network. Good answers from Claire and Linlyons, bizarre answer from Jim! Tomcat may have a point though...
Q:Solar Panel Installation?
Wires from panels go to controller input terminals. Controller DC battery terminals to battery so that the controller will protect batteries and split power as required by demand to the inverter. Output DC on controller to inverter. Output AC or outlets on the inverter to AC appliances. One thousand watts is not very much capacity. It will keep your computer running and a lamp to read by. It won't run major appliances. A hair dryer is typically 500 watts and could not be run by this system.
Q:Do they make solar panels like this?
Solar panels only put out electricity when they are in the sunlight. If you need electricity after peak solar hours, you will need a battery storage system or a connection to the grid. You can run a DC device directly off of solar panels if the device uses the same voltage and amperage that the panel puts out. Your 600W lights use a ballast that takes AC current and will not work with the typical panel. Also, a 600W light will take at least 3 high output/high efficiency panels to run, and you will need more than that if you want to store energy in batteries. You are talking at least 60 sq. ft. of solar on your roof. Aside from the power you need, you are also asking for an AC current, while most solar panels put out a DC current. This is what inverters are for. There are some newer panels that output AC, but you are still talking about a lot of PV to power your needs.
