How a Pump Works
The pump is driven by an AC or DC motor
In front of the motor is a valve assembly containing two to five valve pump chambers. Each valve chamber has a diaphragm behind it in the lower pump housing. As the motor shaft turns, an internal cam positioned behind the diaphragms causes the diaphragms to be pushed forward, then back in a continuous sequence creating a suction. As this suction builds, fluid is pulled hrough the inlet, through the various valve chamber check valves to the outlet he volume of flow is determined by several factors including: the number and size of the pump chambers,cam offset, operating pressure, fluid viscosity.
- Q:HelloMy question is about a 2000 Nissan AltimaThe coolant in my radiator seems to be emptying out very often. When I re-fill the radiator and start the car, coolant slowly starts dripping from below the a/c compressor. I do not know if its the a/c compressor that is leaking or some other part there. Is there a possibility that the compressor itself is leaking coolant or could it be the water pump? I checked the hoses that go in and out of the compressor and there seems to be no leak. All I can see is coolant from the bottom of the compressor dripping at a rate of, say 1 drop per 2 seconds.Thank you
- The A/C system is closed to any other engine fluids. The coolant is leaking from elsewhere.
- Q:I have septic tanks. My toilet flushing water is filthy and the water pump runs for a long time and sounds strange. I have turned the pump off for now but know this is not an answer but i was worried it would burn out or something. Do i need a part for the pressure pump? Please help any plumbers out there.
- Marilyn, Your problem is that your main sewer line that runs from your house to you septic tank is blocked up somewhere not running. That is why you have really dirty water in your toilet AND the fact that your sewer ejector pump will not shut off. What will take care of your problem is that you need to get a good, local, competent, reputable sewer drain service to come over and snake your sewer line from your house, out towards you septic tank. That will fix your problem. Good luck.
- Q:Suppose the liquid temperature range for the water pump is -20 .. 90 °C. However it should be worked under liquid temperature upto 180 °C. For this, what has to to be done?
- (edited) The physical size of the pumping arrangement was not described. I assume that the pump has all metallic components because of the high (194 F) 90degC design operating temperature. There may be some problem with an elastomeric bellows in a mechanical seal at the 180degC (356F) temperature. Other than that, there should be no problem with the temperatures as far as the pump is concerned. There may be a need for shaft cooling to protect the standard electric motor and possibly the flexible drive coupling arrangement. (edit) Depending on the physical size, rotating speed and drive arrangement, a special coupling set-up may be needed to accommodate any potentially wide swing in operating temperatures. From ambient to 180degC there will be about a 160C (288F) variation. The liquid will be either a salt or a glycol brine solution for freeze protection at the lower temperatures. (edit) That same concentration will provide some elevation of the boiling temperature and therefore a reduction of the pressure of the water solution needed to prevent boiling. ( 130 psig is the saturation pressure of plain water at that elevated temperature.) This can be found on the charts provided by the glycol suppliers for the various glycol and salt solution characteristics. To prevent cavitation you may need to pressurize the suction. If the proposed pressure of the system is already above the vapor pressure of the solution at that maximum temperature, you may already be OK. A motor with high temperature windings may be considered.

- The best water filter depends on your objective. A ceramic filter removes large amoeba and bacteria, but not viruses from water sources. A filter that includes activated charcoal removes some harmful chemicals. The gear that you purchase is determined by factors such as speed of treatment; types of exposure threats; portability; ease of use; field maintenance. Study reviews and advice. Backpacker Magazine and YouTube are two sources of good information. The most popular filters are pump or gravity feed. SteriPen is an ultraviolet alternative, though unreliable in field testing that I have seen. Expect to pay $100 for any good filtration system. A ceramic filter is essentially permanent. Other filters require replacement periodically. Do not spend less on filters that do not perform adequately for removal of common water pathogens. I have used the MRS Miniworks and Platypus GravityWorks filter. GravityWorks is the fastest, easiest filter for water treatment.

- The ordinary pump houses are ordinary energy-saving lamps, but there is a glass shield outside of it which is waterproof...And they're all emergency lights!Like some large pump houses, they have riot lights...
- Q:No water will come out of any faucet in the whole house and I do not know what to do, if I need a whole new pump/tank or what could be causing this please help
- There are several possibilities as to why you have no water pressure. The pump could have lost it's prime, there could be a crack or loose connection between the well pipe and the pump, resulting in pumping air instead of water, the jet in the pump could have been plugged by a flake of rust broken off the inside of the pump housing, or, if you have a fairly old system, like mine, your air volume control, (a little round silver object screwed into the side of the resevoir tank), could be bad. Did this just happen all of a sudden, are you trying to open up a cottage for the summer that's been shut down all winter, was it pumping recently??? More info would be helpful.
