- When we bought our house we ripped all the carpet out and replaced it with laminate wood and ceramic tile. I love my laminate wood! It's not as noisy or cold as you might think. We put down a good moisture/noise barrier underneath it which gives it a solid, quiet sound. And it's not cold at all, it stays the temp of your house. Carpet holds alot of dirt, mold, bugs, and bacteria, no matter how much you vaccuum. And it's terrible for allergy sufferers. I have no allergy problems now that we have no carpet. Remember you can always put rugs down where you need some softness. We bought all of our flooring from a discount builder supply store. We paid $1.00/sq. ft. for the laminate wood and 68cents/sq. ft. for the 12x12 tile. There's no need to pay high prices for this stuff, just make sure it's good quality. We saved even more money by doing the work ourselves. I say ditch the carpet and go for laminate wood.

- critically this works, even for stains like set in black hair dye that dried. get a can of hairspray (garnier fructis is what i take advantage of, I do not understand how good different manufacturers paintings) and spray a load of it correct into the stain till it is soaking wet. allow that soak in for a minute after which placed a fabric or rag on most sensible of the rainy spot and press fairly rough, do not scrub although, simply practice consistent strain. you can also need to do that again and again, however you're going to see the colour raise correct out of the carpet, particularly in the event you use a white rag you'll be able to fairly see the colour lifting. well success :)

- Replaced carpet has to be reasonably same quality carpet. Since you have no knowledge of what was paid, the quality/pile/density, etc. there's really no way you could argue this. But generally if a renter is the type of person that damaged a carpet enough to need replacing, they shouldn't be arguing the matter anyway. These kinds of renters either have kids or animals that have destroyed it, or they themselves did it and had no regard for what happened afterward. In such a case there's really no one that would blame a landlord for anything he'd do to fix the place up afterward. Don't let yourself be one of those types of renters. It's supposed to be your home albeit temporary...it's not an animal crate.

- Measure your room and figure out how big of a rectangle would work. Assume that you would leave a little space around the edges (maybe 6-12?). Go to carpet stores and ask about remnants in the size you need. They always have leftovers from carpeting jobs and are more than happy to sell them. Some may already be bound at the edge, others may need to be bound and you would have to pay for that. You can install a remnant by just rolling it out. You could add a pad underneath as well, but it is not necessary.
