- Q:I'm looking to purchase a coffee pot for my upcoming apartment. As an avid coffee drinker and a bargain shopper, I'm looking into everything. I had a friend recommend a french press as well as some other brand name appliances. What are the differences and similarities to having a french press? What other things do I need to purchase along with a press and how does the coffee compare to ordinary pot making coffee?? Thanks!
- some people say that coffee from a french press is much more flavorful, and I agree with them. The way it works is that the coffee grounds steep in hot water longer and you get much more flavor from the coffee grounds. A regular coffee maker works with dripping hot water through the coffee grounds. A lot of people like this method also. It's also very convenient for making a lot of coffee. The cons on making coffee with a french press is that you need coarse ground coffee. All preground stuff is made for regular coffee makers. Also, it's a hassle to clean a french press. Also, you can't make large quantities of coffee with a french press, unlike a coffee maker. If I were you, I would find a french press at a thrift store since they always have used ones for cheap there. Try it out and decide. edit: youtube has great vids on how to use a French press.
- Q:For my botany class, we're supposed to find 1 sample of plant each from 10-12 different families, press them, and mount them. They are due this Thursday (3 days from now).I had already pressed all the plants needed well ahead of time using the plant press with straps and newspaper. I waited about a week to for them to dry fully, and they were all nice and flat - but someone thought they were trash and threw them away! I should have hid them in my room, but obviously it's too late for that.Now I gathered more plants to replace them, but I don't think I have enough time to press them normally. I heard that I can place foil on top of each individual plant and use a clothes iron to flatten and dry them quickly. Will this work? It doesn't need to be a work of art, it just needs to be recognizable and intact for mounting. Thanks for any advice - it's much appreciated.
- I remember once reading about somebody using a microwave to accelerate the drying time of pressed plants, however I've never tried it. You could try googling this technique. I would think that the heat might cause discoloration because plants are very sensitive to that sort of thing. In any case, I would think that using a big, heavy, book-the bigger the better-like a dictionary, would work better than a newspaper. I normally press my plants in big books like this, and then put a big stack of books on top of them, and stomp a few times on it for good measure. It presses the moisture out of them and the paper absorbs it. Some papers absorb better than others, for example laminated paper doesn't work well at all for this. The trick is to get the moisture out as quickly as possible. So you can try this, let it dry a few hours, maybe take it out and put it on a new dry page, to speed up the process a little. It's like wringing out a wet towel in a way. I don't know how thick the plants you are trying to press are, but the ones I press usually dry overnight.

- Q:I have La Femme Hollywood pressed powder and Aveda free powder. One uses a sponge like material and the other a brush. Which looks more natural? I don't want it to look like I'm wearing lots of makeup. BTW- How do I know what's agood brush? DO I buy one of those big ones for the powder or a small one?
- Loose powder looks better and more natural, use like a soft poofy big brush, small ones are for blush. Pressed powder can leave them face lines also known as the line of demarcation. where the make up ends.
- Q:i need a way to increase my bench press as much as i can as fast as i can without actually bench pressing, how can i do this?
- Mmmm, if actually bench pressing is not an option then I'd say concentrate on plenty of push-ups as they will develop the same muscle group as are required for bench presses. After a certain stage of development push-ups will not be so beneficial in making your muscles bigger, but doing them as an endurance exercise will always increase your actual physical strength. Also, do you have access to dumb-bells? If so, lie at a 45 degree angle and do vertical reps (i.e. your shoulder to as high as you can reach). That will also help ;?)

- No the bicep is a pulling muscle. The muscles used while benching are Primarily the chest. Secondarily the front delts or front of your shoulder thirdly the triceps which is the back of your arm. If doing correctly should focus most on the chest

- Q:i'm looking to buy a new cookie press as my old one has had it. on ebay i see lots of vintage sets. are they worth the purchase? i make cookies so regularly that this is an important purchase. is there a perfect cookie press? i've used wilton before and it broke within the first few uses. my old cookie press is pedrini, an italian brand. i would love to hear another baker's opinion.
- I have been using a vintage cookie press by Wear-ever. It is all aluminum and I have seen it on eBay. Mine was my mother's and I remember her using it at the holidays when I was a little girl. I still use it today.....and I am 50 years old. The one that I have has a trigger on the handle and not the twist handle. Check eBay and get one of these. Nothing made of plastic will last long, and the ones that they have on the market today are just a frustrating waste of time and money. - Q:I'm in Girls weights and I can barely bench the 45 pound bar. I can do like 3 reps and then my arms give out. (we do a total of 5.) I can squat 95, incline press 35 and hang clean 35. I really need to be able to bench the 45 pound bar. Thats like the minimum weight for my class. Any tips on building up the muscle fast or something?
- Just lie on your stomach and press up as many reps as you can, arching your back. Do this several times a day. It's a very healthy exercise for your back as well as building up for pushups or bench press. You'll surprise yourself how quickly you build strength - 45 pounds is very light, so part of your problem is that your muscles simply aren't used to being worked at all. My guess is you'll be well past 45 pounds before you know it.
