Q:What's the difference?
A rug has a backing which will in most cases prevent the rug from slipping on a hard floor, such as wood. A tapestry does not, and can slide out from under you as you walk on it. The construction of the tapestry is not designed to hold up to foot traffic either. Hope this helps.
Q:How do I clean my large area rugs? I have hardwood floors and the rugs are covering different areas. Two are 4 x 7 rugs and the other is a 5 x 7 wool carpet. I don't want to harm the wood floors underneath with cleaners...
Although I have all of my large area rugs professionally cleaned once a year, I use the Resolve dry granulated carpet cleaner several times a year. Since it is dry, it doesn't saturate into the flooring below. You simply sprinkle it on the rug, agitate it into the fibers with the brush on a stick that comes with it and wait til it dries to vacuum it up. It leaves a nice scent, it isn't expensive and the gallon size should be enough to do all of your rugs a few times. I use it on my Tibetan wool and my silk area rugs without fear of damage. I also use it for spot cleaning on the rug under my dining room table and it takes out the stains with little effort.
Q:Hey, I cant afford an area rug to put under my full, do you guys know of anything I could do to make up for this? I know multiple rugs would be stupid. The reason I want an area rug so bad is because my room is tile.

Q:How often is the average for replacing living room or bedroom carpet, I know it depends on the traffic, etc but just wondering averages and when is it time to replace instead of having it cleaned
When it becomes thread bare, or does not come clean when you clean it, or it becomes damaged in some way that cannot be repaired, or you just can't stand to look at it any more...that's the time to change it. There is no rule of thumb, and anyone who tries to give you a time line based on just time, is just trying to sell you carpet. If it's not broken, don't fix it. There is a point though, when you can go too long. Example: I bought a house about a year ago with really terrible carpet. It was about 40 years old and looked like it had never been cleaned. It was horrible. I pondered for a split second whether I should try to have it cleaned once, to see if it was salvagable or go ahead and remove it before I moved in. Every time I went to the house, while trying to prep it to move in, I came out itching.... I had every last stitch of carpet removed, and found beautiful hardwood floors throughout, and so had those refinished and bought area rugs. So, that was an extreme....the point is that it is possible to wait too long, but still, keep your carpets as long as you keep them clean and you like them. I had another carpet, which I loved, for about 20 years, and I loved looking at it every day when I came home. I kept it very clean, and finally killed it with a dropped iron....
Q:So, im trying to make a little ramp for summer skiing. I need to know what i should use(ex. carpet (type?))
Go to the place near you that sells carpeting. Get the green plastic stuff that looks like fake grass. Some people use this on decks and on boats. If you are using Snogel, this kind of carpet works very well. It's what I use.
Q:Can I use a fabric dye (RIT), and just paint it on the 3quot; wide border? Want to change from present light blue to dark brown.jackie
I have worked with Rit dyes quite frequently and although they are good dies for natural fibers, I am not sure painting a boarder will net the results you desire. First of all, the dye has to be mixed with salt. Because you will not be able to rinse and spin the dye out of he rug, that salt will just remain in your rug when the dye has dried. This may leave salt crystals in your rug along with making it quite stiff. And,because the dye is wet, it will certainly bleed outside of the boarders of the rug. Another problem is the dye bleeding onto the floor causing permanent damage. Even if you can jump over these obstacles, the dye will remain in the rug, full strength because it can not be rinsed and spun out, so it can easily transfer the color from the rug to your shoes to other areas of the house. And, heaven forbid, if the rug gets wet at a later date it will reactivate the dye and boy I will hear you cursing from here. So, you see, using this type of dying process is really full of challenges and there is too much to go wrong so I do not think it is worth the risk. However, there may be other dyes I am unaware of. Do an internet search on dyes and also rug dying to get some helpful hints and possible products that will net you the results you are after. I have lots of resources that I will check on and edit my answer if I get more information.
Q:How do I get the carpet joint?
Sequence of operations (1) dimension of carpet. Each piece of carpet length less than the length of the room is about 5CM, the width of the cut to the edge of the carpet thread size calculation and test shop carpet positioning, cutting blanket material, to make the interface carpet wool direction, to avoid the surface of yin and yang. (2) to cut the carpet on the floor, the first fixed one side, then tensioned by a tensioning device and the carpet seam splicing method. The carpet in the laying process, we should pay attention to the carpet wool fabric consistent direction and light direction, in order to reduce the adverse effect when walking left inverse hair marks resulting in light of the mess imprinted on the carpet. (3) the wall knife trimmed the carpet, the carpet will be available flat shovel overturned in a wooden card into the nail to be fixed, with the final sealing strip, and vacuuming the carpet dust.
Q:As a part of modern decoration, carpet can not only beautify the living environment, but also improve the comfort of decoration and reduce walking noise. Carpets can be divided into many kinds according to materials, so what kinds of carpets are there? What material is good?
Carpets are generally divided into the following four categories. Let's learn about them together. 1. Pure wool carpet pure wool carpet is a high-grade decoration material for the floors of high-grade guest rooms, auditoriums and stages. It is made of the best quality sheep wool weaving carpets in the world. Cotton wool has long fiber, large tensile force, good elasticity and luster, and the fiber is slightly thick and powerful. 2. Chemical fiber carpet. Chemical fiber carpet is also called synthetic fiber carpet, such as polypropylene chemical fiber carpet, polypropylene chemical fiber carpet, nylon (polyethylene eye) chemical fiber carpet, nylon carpet, etc. It is made of synthetic fiber into a surface layer by tufting method or weaving method and stitched with the bottom layer of linen. Chemical fiber carpet has good wear resistance, elasticity and low price. It is suitable for floor decoration of general buildings. 3. Blended carpet is a floor decoration material made of wool fiber and various synthetic fibers. Because synthetic fiber is mixed in the blended carpet, the price is low and the service performance is improved. For example, after adding 20% nylon fiber to wool fiber, the wear resistance of carpet can be improved five times, the decorative performance is no less than that of pure wool carpet, and the price is more affordable. 4. Plastic carpet is made of PVC resin, plasticizer and other auxiliary materials, which can be used instead of pure wool carpet and chemical fiber carpet. The plastic carpet is soft, colorful, comfortable and durable, not easy to burn, self extinguishing and not afraid of moisture. Plastic carpet is suitable for hotels, shopping malls, stages, houses, etc.
Q:I just moved into a brand new house to then spill bright red nail polish all over the carpet any ideas on how to get it out without ruining the carpet?
I have heard that WD40 works.Spray it on and then blot with paper towel.Haven't tried myself just hearsay.
Q:My dog has now peed on the entire futon. If I rent a a rug doctor (from local grocery store) will it work on a futon? The futon is only about 4inches thick. I'm wondering if the rug doctor will be able to suck up the water it jets out, or if it will just make the futon wet?
Having used a Rug Doctor many times, I seriously doubt that it would do any good in your situation. Yes, it does have good suction power for carpets, but even then, it requires time for the underlayment (usually foam padding) to dry, also. I wish I had a good answer for you. The responder that suggested you get the attachments, may be the best answer, just trying to suck the water out may be all you can do. Good luck...
