Q:We laid tile in our shower and I used too much grout. Now I need to know how to get the grout lines even without damaging the tile. Any help would be appreciated.
thats a problem, grout is cement , it will take something thats abrasive, like a wheel grinder, ? got me stumped i,v been at this for 50 yrs, never have figgered that one out,
Q:Dont worry about looks with the dollar tile just want to know pricing pretty much on the tile and how expensive it is.
If you are doing the tile work yourself, it will be cheaper than having one of those fiberglass shower enclosures put in. You are looking at the cost of tile (at $1/sqft.), grout ($10 or less), permabase/durock ($9 per 3x5 sheet), mastic ($30 for high quality), and caulk ($4), to get the job done. On an average size shower, this will bring your total material bill in at right around $200. This is based on entirely ripping out your old shower walls (back to the studs), and building an entirely new shower. A complete rennovation for $200. This is what I do for a living, and I can honestly tell you that you will save tons if you are handy enough to do this yourself. One side note on the pre-fab showers (fiberglass, urethane, etc) - we get a lot of calls to come out and remove mold from these types of enclosures. On most that I've seen there are a lot of corners and small nooks that moisture gathers up and sits in. Just something to watch out for should you go that method. Good luck to you, either way.
Q:is it fine to set ceramic tiles over existing vinyl flooring?would it be better to use mastic or mortar?how to prepare such a surface?tia
No,you cant do that .Vinyl must br removed first, you cant tile over hard wood floor either. If removing the vinyl is too difficult, you can just leave it down and use cement boards over it.You can get them at any home improvement stores, they come in 4x5 sheets, and are screwed with dry wall screws into the wood floor. They are designed for that purpose, and pretty easy to work with, and cut,as you only need to score it with a utility knife and bend to brake,.
Q:Used 600x300 glazed tile for the whole outdoor building. 30% tile gum and cement mixed for the work. 6 months later, the Tiles begun to fall off the wall leaving the cement still strongly bonded on the wall. I mean, the tiles ONLY fall donw, not with the cement. Note: We usually soak SOME ceramic tile with water before pasting them, IF the type call for that. But the type is apparently out of the case of water solution.Granite is even heavier than that and yet lasts virtually with building.
Outdoor Wall Tiles
Q:How is oriental Paul tiles?
7 test slip resistance This may be most of the staff of the tile shop will show you, so you directly on the tiles surface trample, feel slippery slip, but we think about what circumstances will be slipped on the floor tiles? Should be when there is water, some brick surface will be a very slippery water, will fall, so the test should be in the tiles surface sprinkle some water to simulate the real situation, and must personally step on the brick test , Some brick water will be more slippery, and some tiles will be more waterproof after the water, recommend this type. Before the test should first tile surface clean, because some of the brick surface to protect the wax, will greatly affect the accuracy of self-test. 8 other details In the process of selecting the tiles I suggest that we must go to the store to see, color and quality is difficult to see from the Internet, you can go to the store selected models, and then to the Internet to buy. No matter from which channel to buy, and businesses must be sure who is good delivery, is sent to the downstairs or sent to the home, is not free replenishment replacement. Because tiles such building materials is really very heavy, with their own simply can not move home. But also in the handling process is very likely to cause damage to the tiles, it is best to let the business to your handling, so that a problem can find him, if you find the construction team workers to move you, that tiles in the handling process is damaged, the basic It is your own money to replenish the goods. Finally, in fact, if you really do not want to bother to identify the quality of the tile, the most easy way is to buy big-name tiles, such as Nobel, Dongpeng, crown beads, etc., big brand tiles really trustworthy; but you still afraid of their own Can not buy good tiles, then you will pay more attention to our evaluation of the bar, if there is a good tiles we will recommend you to buy directly.
Q:We are redecorating our bathroom. We are on a very limited budget. We can‘t afford to rip out the old tiles and put in new, so we‘re wondering if there is something we can do to make them look new and/or different. Such as painting them? That was my idea, but not sure that tiles can be painted? Can they? And if so how? What exact steps do we need to do to paint the tiles? Or any other ideas on making them look better? Thanks in advance.
I've used several off the shelve tile cleaners and many of them work wonderfully. However, if you have ugly tile, not just dirtly tile, then a cleaner is not going to do the trick. Painting tiles is a very short term solution. Paint will not last long on a tile surface. When it starts coming off you're likely to have something that's even worse. The cost of replacing the tiles yourself will be very low, ultimately depending on the surface underneath the tile and your choice of tile. I've done it a few times in my own house and have found that good looking tile floors are one of the easier do-it-yourself jobs. It seems a lot more difficult than it turns out to be. The cost of a book, one day rental of a tile cutting saw, tile of your choice, and other supplies should only run you about $100 to $200 and yet the results will be truly remarkable. I'd count on a good three days if this is your first tile job. This sounds like a lot of time, but you'll only have problems if you're in a hurry -- so don't rush it.
Q:and 12 red tiles and 9 white tiles in pattern 3, how many white and red tiles will there be in pattern 6 and pattern 10?Thanks!
18 red and 18 white in 6 26 red and 30 white in10
Q:I have ten 4x4 ceramic tile that I cannot find new. What is an easy way to clean the backs off so I can re-use them?
There are two different ways i know if to set ceramic tile, one is essentially to use a grout, the second is to use a glue. I suspect the hardened glue would present more of a problem than the grout. Someone has already mentioned a chisel, which is worth a try but you have to be gentle and have the front of the tile clamped on a surface such as a newspaper to protect the face of the tile from abrasion. The second might be the use of a high speed rotary tool. Since I owned one of those I have found innumerable uses for it. Usually you can get a bag of bits that includes a small sanding drum with sanding sleeves that go on the drum. This is also worth a try and would not risk breaking the tile. Avoid sanding to the point where the tile gets real hot though to avoid breaking it with thermal stresses. If it is a glue on the back you could still try the chisel or the rotary tool, but if that didn't work you could try a few high end solvents like acetone or xylene to see if that would soften the hardened glue. Perhaps even soaking them in oil for a week or so would soften the glue. good luck
Q:I have large granite tiles on my counter that don't go all the way to the edge. Ceramic ones complete the lip. Unfortunately, to get my old dishwasher out from under the counter I had to break some. How do I remove what's left of them without damaging the really nice granite ones? Is there anything else I need to be careful about?
The force from removing the broken tile can be transferred through the grout onto the granite tile. So first try to clear out the grout between the 2 rows of tile. Use a hammer and chisel (and safety glasses) and swing away from the tile you want to keep. If there is a mud job with thinset between the mud and the tile, try to chisel the thinset off, leaving the bottom mud-job in tact. If you're lucky, you won't have to repair it and can start laying the new tile right away.
Q:we‘ve moved into a 1930s flat with those old bakelite tiles, i think they‘re caller marley tiles. does anyone know a good way to get paint off them, and how to get them looking shiney and new again.cheers!
The one thing you do not want to do is use any harsh or abrasive cleanser on them. If they are real bakelite then they can lose their gloss and can be ruined. First try a bit of liquid laundry soap and warm water on a terry washcloth or small towel and dab or blot it on the spots. As the warm water and soap sit on the paint it will soften enough to scrape off with your fingernail or a popsicle stick. Always try any cleaning on a tile that is not seen readily, like under the sink if available, to insure that the finish does not get damaged. I have never known tiles to be made of bakelite but plastic was used extensively up to the 1970's and it can be cleaned with mineral spirits if necessary. If the soap and water do not work try mineral spirits, (also known as paint thinner and/or turpentine) on a small area of the tiles. You can try the fingernail scraping method first and some of the paint may come off straight away if it is latex and not too thick. If you get all the paint off you can shine them with carnuba wax, but try the wax on a hidden tile to make sure it does not have a reaction with bakelite. Best of luck.
