Q:can u lay household tiles outdoors?
Better to use an out side rated tile such as a frost proof tile. But if you live in a warmer climate ( non freezing) you can. In a path way the tiles do need to be rated for foot traffic. This so you don t get sued in a slip and fall.. Rain will not harm tiles at all .. Well maybe acid rain after years and years of exposure.Rain would only effect the bonding material if you use any thing other than a thin set. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:Bathtub wall tile?
Yes. I have tiled 10's of thousands of feet on green board. It's not my choice , but you know contractors go the cheapest way. Keep green board a 1/2 off the tub. It will last a lot longer.I also would not use adhesive it is messy and loses hold after a few years. I used plain OL' thinset. It holds great and is easy to wipe out of the joints. And don't let anyone tell you different. I set tile for 30 yrs.
Q:Why did my porcelain tile crack around my toilet?
You should have done a better job from the start. Don't lay tile over vinyl period. How to maybe salvage your project without starting over. Remove the cracked tiles. Cut away the vinyl in the area lay the tile directly on the sub-floor and make sure you have adhesion. In addition to using notched trowel back butter the tile. Let it dry completely and grout. When you reinstall the toilet make sure you don't over tighten. This is not how I would tell you to lay tile, but your other choice is to rip everything up, including the vinyl and install a proper underlayment, like dura-rock and re-tile.
Q:Back splash - do we seal before travertine tile is put on the wall?
You seal it afterwords.
Q:How to fix just one flooring tile?
I assume it's ceramic tiles, not vinyl? It's probably the wood subfloor or wood tile underlayment, you can use some wood screws underneath the floor to tighten the plywood to the floor joists. Of course, that might mean opening up the ceiling below, but that's probably easier to patch than the tile floor. Or, you remove some of the tile grout, and screw into the joist from above, then re-grout. That could be tricky- you need to know exactly where the floor joists are.
Q:How to paint tiles?
With your tiles if you want to paint them darker then yes you can buy specific tile paint, which involves using a primer first then the paint, but to go lighter i think u may struggle as covering any dark colour and going lighter is tough. As for your cabinets, depends what they are made of, if the r solid wood a light sanding and primer should suffice, if they have laminate fronts(shiny) i wouldn't bother trying to paint them, just buy new fronts, its often as cheap as buying all the paints and primers etc!
Q:Tiles on the cement can not get rid of how to do?
1. Tile cement stains can not be used steel ball, can be used 1500 or 2000 water sand paper gently wipe, or wipe with dilute hydrochloric acid, wipe clean with clean water .2. Clean up the cement residue cleaning agent can try; 3. "Banana water" paint thinner, good decontamination effect, sprinkle a few drops of tiles, wipe and rinse with water
Q:installing tiles for floor slab?
If you're using ceramic tiles (very regular size and relatively smooth/even back), use a 1/4 square notched trowel, held somewhere between 45 and 90 degrees (vertical). If you're using natural stone tiles (e.g. granite, marble, slate), go for 3/8 square notched trowel and back-butter the tiles. Make sure the concrete slab is clean, sound, free of cracks and level before you start and follow the instructions for your thinset. You'll likely want to use a modified thinset which will help bond to the concrete better. If you have any doubts about the stability of your slab, consider installing an isolation membrane between the tile and slab. Schluter's Ditra system is the best of the breed for this. If you use an isolation membrane, use unmodified thinset (instead of modified).
Q:Find Discontinued Tile?
Discontinued Tile Outlet
Q:What does it mean to prep a floor before laying tile?
Preping the floor for tiling can involve multiple things: First tile cannot be layed on any kind of surface It has to be dry and very solid without any movements or the tile or the grout will crack after some time, so it might involve some extra screws on a plywood floor removing cushion floor etc. If the floor is uneven or not level this has to be fixed before laying the tile also, this may include pouring some self leveling concrete to level the floor. The floor surface has to be completely clean before laying the tile, so brooming, removing baseboards etc. He may also chalk some lines as reference points before laying the tile. Hope this helps
