- Q:I have a tile shower that is looking rather shabby. I‘ve been considering ripping the tile out and re-doing it, but I was given the suggestion of professionally refinishing the tile. Has anyone ever done this? What is involved? I‘m okay with the tile, but I‘d like it to look nicer than it does with out spending a ton of money.
- I just saw on DIY that they painted these ugly pink tiles with an enamel paint so they were white, It's really toxic so you have to wear a special face mask when painting. It didn't look all that great to me- they taped the edges but it went over. I'm sure if it was professionally done it would look nicer. You should price it out to see the difference in cost.

- Several types of tile are made in the US. Some include Florida Tile, American Olean some Laufen tile are made here. You don t necessarily need a 12x12 , you may want to consider a smaller tile in that space. Even some of the makers listed above import the tile from Turkey, China, Italy etc. Over the years I haven t done much China made tile so I can t honestly comment on that. Almost any tile made ( almost) will be fine in a residential bathroom setting. Porcelain tiles are fine but normal ceramics will also work well. Vinyl sheet goods will also work fine in a bathroom. They come in 6 and 12 ft goods, so a 6x7 foot pc will work excellent for you since you won t scrap out much and you ll be seamless. - Tile over the existing material. Asbestos is only harmful when inhaled into the lungs, so just leave it alone. I have never heard of having to abate asbestos when selling a house - if it was, housing resale in this country would grind to a halt and the asbestos abatement business would not be able to keep up. Just about any house that was built before 1970 has it.

- Forget the rental business, you'll pay for one day as much as you can buy one for your use. Go to Home Depot, they start at $88.00 for a cheapo that works just fine for a powered tile cutter. I have had one for several years now I paid $120.00 for it, two days rental, and it's done more then several bathrooms and floors, still going strong.
