Q:Question About Ceramic Tile?
Hi, my brother installs ceramic tile for a living and has been doing it for about ten yrs or so, maybe less, maybe more, not sure, if you would like, I could find out for you, or have him contact you by phone or email.
Q:I need to get some opinions about tile flooring?
Porcelain is a more dense tile with less water absorption. I prefer porcelain over ceramic. In most cases when/if you get a chip in porcelain it is much more noticeable. In any case, your taste will most likely determine your choice. However, tile has ratings, i.e., 1 thru 5. 1 being less durable and 5 being most durable. 1's and 2's would be a wall tile and 3-5 would be a floor tile. Ask your supplier when you see something you like. If he doesn't know, go somewhere else.
Q:Can you Spackle over ceiling tile?
Not sure what type of tiles these are, but I'll guess this is a hung ceiling, with the metal strips holding up lightweight acoustic ceiling tile. If this is the case, spackle (used to fill holes in walls, etc.) is not an option. In theory, someone could mud the suspended ceiling, and it could possibly come out relatively smooth. However, hung ceilings are not made for this, and I doubt an amateur could pull it off with any degree of success. What's above the tiles? A real ceiling? If so, your best bet is to remove the hung ceiling, and either fix up the real ceiling above, or put a real ceiling up.
Q:tile old brick fireplace?
To do that it is a bit more complicated than it sounds. You would need to make the brick surface smooth, no crevaces. It's expensive time consuming. Consider resurfacing the fireplace
Q:where to get floor tiles @ good price?
Assuming you want ceramic tile, your bigger concern is installing it correctly then getting a better quality. You pay more for the style of the tile or if you get a natural stone tile. If you are not to particular about what you want then you should be able to get a remnant. May be even put 2 remnants together and make a pattern. Pinwheel pattern is one of my favorites. I would suggest going to the local flooring stores and checking out there rems and go to the ones that have designers for sales people. They offer a lot of design ideas free of charge.
Q:Has anyone installed carpet tile?
Carpet tiles are easy to install. Some even come with their own adhesive backing. You will need to begin with marking out the center of the room and squaring it to make a + so you can set the firs four tiles down and work outward from the center. Once you have marked your + do a dry run and make sure you don't end up with a large chunk of tile on one wall and a sliver on the other. If that happens, shift the center mark toward the shorter edge. Once you have done the dry run and you are happy with the results you can stick them down. Good luck
Q:Can you paint ceramic tiles?
It is possible to paint tile but this does wear very quickly and does not work very well .Other than using a resin based floor paint there is not a lot you can do with tiles
Q:can I put 12 inch ceramic tile over 16 inch ceramic tiles?
you can do what you want, after all it is your house and your money,,, however,,, tile over tile is not recommended at all. the biggest problem with tile over tile is a matter of adhesion between the two layers. the floor leveler needed to raise the height of the old grout joints to level and the mortar used to bed the new tiles, will, for a short time adhere to the clean finished face of the old tiles. as time marches on, the adhesive bond between the mortar and the fished face will break loose. when that happens you will start to hear a hollow sound as you walk across the floor, you may also start to feel a bit of sponginess in the floor,,, then the problems begin in ernest with removing two layers of tile ( not hard to do, just more debris ), disposing of the materials, dealing with a door that was cut off to allow for the extra height, dealing with reinstalling baseboards, dealing with thresholds that no longer fit properly and need to be replaced, dealing with old caulking lines that will no longer be hidden and still you have to install a new floor covering.
Q:Ceramic floor tiles for counter top?
It will hold up, but don't buy a real shiny one with no texture at all. Because everything will show on it and they will eventually scratch. Also a good idea is the dark grout inbetween. Beware of placing mahogony or oak on the edge as it will warp and lose its color eventually from water, I would put a beautiful tile edging instead. Also try to make a design on the backsplash..It really looks georgeous, such as making the tiles diamond shape, and a straight tile border on top and bottom. Absolutely georgeous. My friend has that look and it is so lovely. My daughter in law has ceramic tile counter tops and they are georgeous. The back splash has a beautiful italian fountain design which my son did by himself by purchasing the special tile to place right by the sink. Good Luck on your project.
Q:5 years ago i had ceramic tile laid in my den, I have no extra pieces nor do I have the name of the tile.?
yea take it to menards hd or lowes and ask the people in the flooring dept. if they have ever seen anything like it.
