Q:All the water to my house comes from the river close by - via a 1500kw surface pump, into a large pressurised tank. If there is ever any kind of blockage in the pipe - or if it freezes ...this causes the pump to run - 'dry' - which eventually burns out the motor. I have lost 2 pumps so far because of running dry - and they are very expensive.I would like to fit some kind of automatic cut-out - that will ALWAYS stop the pump running after 15 minutes or perhaps less - as that is ALL the time it needs - if the water is flowing freely - to fill the pressurised tank. I feel sure such a thing must exist - but I do not know what it is called or where to buy one. Does anyone know of a 'switch' of this kind? And where to look for one? What could I put into google to do a search - for suppliers and prices, please?
There are pressure switches that have a low water cut out on them.If the pressure drops too low the switch will turn the pump off.This however my not be a 100% cure.If you used just enough water to turn the pump on and then shut the flow of water off and the pump was not pumping water for the reasons you stated it would continue to run and not build up enough pressure to turn it off.If you wanted to do some sort of timer you could contact an electrician and ask about a timer that could be acctivated when the pump comes on. I am not aware of any thing on the market made for this but a good electrician would know where to get the right components to do this.
Q:I just replaced my submersable well water pump, the wire that connects the pump, the d switch, and the water tank. Everything was installed correctly and with the help of a licensed plumber. While the D switch is closed (providing power to the pump) the pump will run for about 5 seconds then shut off for about one minute. It will continue this process until the system attains proper pressure and the D switch will open, shutting off power to the pump. The pump is brand new. Why, when power is being supplied does the pump cut on and off? We have tested the current at the well head and it shows that 230 is being supplied the whole time that the D switch is closed, which is correct.
12 hours on a civic DX. I am a honda mechanic and I will say that this job only takes 2 hours, 4 hours if your slow and never done it before. Mind you this includes timing belt, water pump, cam seal, crankshaft seal, serpentine belts, valve cover gasket, spark plugs if needed, Honda coolant, and valve adjustment. If you are 1 tooth off on timing your Honda will run, but it will run very rough. Sounds to me like they may have the timing 1 tooth off, 2 teeth off and the car just wont run and if it does it will barely run. This car needs to be taken back and everything i told you should have been done and done properly. What probably happened is the dealer let an apprentice work on the car, since this civic is the easiest to do a timing belt on. However its still their fault that it was not done properly.
Q:I have been quoted $600 to have a a water pump placed on my 2003 saturn vue. Also, another $300 if a thermostat is also needed. I cannot afford this at this time. Additionally, I have had problems with the car without reason all of a sudden not starting. Then, when I get the car to the mechanic it starts. It drives me nuts. Do I need to have the fuel pumps replaced? Do I need to replace both fuel pumps or just one, and which one?
i doubt that your car has 2 fuel pumps but before you replace the pump have it tested first ! besides the pump it could be something else like the pump relay or the fuse ! not starting could even be a clogged fuel filter ! getting back to the thermostat and water pump ! yes you can change them if you have the right tools and your mechanically inclined !
Q:The water pump doesn't seem to be leaking but I do have a leak under the engine in a place I can't get to. The water doesn't seem to be getting to the upper hoses of the engine. I do hear a odd sound like lose rocker arms but its hard to tell where its coming from.This engine is to big for this boat there is no room to work on it except to pull the engine. drive your boat as fast and far as you can. at that point you will find if anything is broken. i say if it ain't broke don't fixit!!! if it brakes then you know what to fix. since it hard to get to your water pump just take your motor out and rebuild the whole thing. welcome to boating.

Giving quotes for this is not really profitable for service companies, so if you are not prepared to do it yourself then you will have to pay the service call rate. A good reputable company will arrive at your home and give you an approximation on what it will cost, but remember once you call them there you will probably have to pay the service call rate, if you are running tight on money call around and ask the rates but remember that this is a weekend and most companies will be running a small crew and might take time to answer your call. The other option is since you have changed the pump yourself why not just change the foot valve your self? Have you primed the pump after replacement? To replace the valve the pipe that runs to the bottom of your well must be pulled up and the valve is on the bottom of it, its a simple matter of removing the old one and replacing with new the big job is usally the pulling up of the pipe.

The pump bracket pivots that allows the belt to be removed. I've seen a few where the alternator belt is over the top of the water pump belt, so you have to remove it first. Actually a pretty easy job.

A manual will be handy to guide you through. It is a fairly extensive job. As a run down, you will need a big floor jack with a block of wood so you can put it underneath the oil pan. You need to do this so you can remove the motor mount that will be in your way. The water pump is driven by the timing belt. You will want to get a new t-belt, t-belt tensioner, rollers for timing belt, etc. Also note that when you are refilling system with coolant, there will be a lot of air in the system. If you don't have a tool that vacuums all the air and pressurizes the coolant through the system, you will have to keep topping off the coolant for a while until all the air escapes as you drive it. Absolutely not. You'll most likely end up blowing the radiator. A great amount of pressure can/will be built up in the radiator and that's not good. I had the water pump go out in my Mazda MPV and didn't know it. I was going up the expressway and just so happened to notice that my temperature gauge was in the red and then I heard a pop and water and steam came shooting up from underneath the hood. You can usually only go about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile with a blown water pump. You'll have to get it towed.

you want a undeniable gadget. Does the fan grasp have a huge nut top at the back of it the place it connects to the water pump? it is is likewise left hand thread. meaning you may pass top to loosen the fan grasp. go away the serpentine belt on. It helps save tension on the water pump pulley. while you're speaking related to the 4 bolts that connect the fan grasp to the watter pump. All they do is take away the pulley.
