Q:An example of something would be one light flashes and another light goes off. Or Lights that are already on, turn off, another one turns on, and lights flash, then the whole process repeats itself again after a while.
A clock driven multi-pole programable time switch. They come in both mechanical and solid state flavors.
Q:I have a hanging, pull-string electrical light in my attic. This is very standard stuff. I would like to purchase an electrical device that will screw into the electric light and give me an electrical outlet. Think of this as a device with the base of an electric light bulb and an electical outlet instead of the bulb. I thought I saw one in a hardware store 20 years ago, but I have no idea if this product still exists. I can not think of what it would be called with a technical name when searching for one on the Internet. My business application is to be able to plug equipment into my attic rather than running the cord into the main house.
It's called a light socket adapter. There are many places that sell them. Take care not to overload the low-current lighting circuit though !
Q:if you have worked in engineering consultancy, can you please tell me what are the typical projects you take and what exactly you do to help different firmswhy cant the firms do that stuff themselves , why do they need you badly ?
I do electrical engineering and do consulting for companies for the design of electrical systems of new plants. What my company and I do is to get the general power requirements for a large building or factory and specify what transformers, wiring, fusing, lighting, and power distribution methods they will need. Because of my education and my experience, I can provide a customer with the correct power and wiring specifications. The companies then can use my specifications to hire large electrical firms to install the electrical equipment and wiring. Firms normally do not do this for themselves because: 1. It is a one-time thing and they would not generally hire some one directly to do this. 2. Many firms cannot legally do this anyway because the state and local municipalities require a state-certified professional engineer and/or engineering company (like me) to design things like this. 3. It would be very costly and inefficient for a company to acquire this capability for a short amount of time. 4. On many types of consultancy, you want to hire another company because you may want a different point of view or perspective on the problem. 5. Many consultants can provide many types of engineering capabilities to bear on a problem, which can be impractical or expensive for companies to hire. Hope this helps Paul
Q:I have a garage full of my dad's old equipment from oscilloscopes, amplifiers, circuit board materials, etc. that I don't know what they are/or are worth, or how to go about selling. Does anyone have any suggestions other than listing everything individually (there is a lot) on OKorder or CraigsList? I'm leaning towards hiring someone to come in and auction it all off for me, but need suggestions. Thanks!
Perhaps contacting the nearest community college electronics instructor or amateur radio club president will yield some knowledgeable individual.
Q:If this is maintained, but voltage changed from 480V to 240V, by what ratio will supply line losses change?
Power voltage x current Therefore current power/voltage. Thus, if power is constant at 2000kW current at 480 volts will be: I 2000,000/480 4166.67amps At 240 volts: I 2000,000/240 8333.33 amps However, line losses are current (squared) x resistance Thus the ratio will be 4166.67 (squared) / 8333.33 (squared), resistance remaining constant of course. I make that 0.25 (or 4, if you are thinking that way up!) That help?
Q:I just moved into an apartment building that apparently has a chronic problem with power surges. The power tends to go on and off several times a week, for no apparent reason. I know I need to buy power surge protectors for all my equipment, but I don't know what type. I've seen surge protectors (multi-plugs) that say 875 joules, 1,045 joules, and so on, but I don't know how to translate that in terms of equipmentFor example, I have a TV, DVD Videocassette player, and high-quality music equiment all plugged into a multi-plug in the living room. Should I buy a multi-plug power surge protector for this area, and what energy requirement should that surge protector have if I'm going to plug all that equipment onto it? What type of a power surge should I buy for my computer? What about the fridge? Air conditioner? Remember, I'm probably going to need to put power surge protectors all over the place, so which would be best for the different types of equipment in a home? Thanks!!!
If I were you I would get a good surge protector and UPS, or uninterruptable power supply. Make sure the surge protector is a quality unit. Actually, I would buy an Isobar surge protector as most UPS units don't have this type of protection. Many are only designed to provide power, not protection. They are good units with real protection. I would then plug the UPS into that. The Isobar will stop surges and spikes (they are different things), and the UPS will protect your equipment from the sudden shut downs and start ups from the loss of power.
Q:I m trying to repair some vintage audio equipment, and I notice these tissue like strips that hold the cables together, without being rolled on. What are those properly called, and do they come in rolls?
Old-style electrical tape was impregnated cloth and not plastic as it is now. There is some still around, it comes in rolls.
Q:how we can design the power rating of any electrical equipment. as per my understanding only way is is to change the resistance of coil( winding if motor, filament if lamp).if it is correct then the equipment will be burn if resistance is low for low power rating. Eg. resistance of filament of 10 w lamp is lower than the resistance of 100 w. generally life of 10 w lamp is higher than 100 w. but in electrical point of view the life of high value of resistance equipment will be higher than the low value value of resistance. means, 10w bulb will glow longer time comparatively 100 w bulb. since 10 w bulb has high resistance , so this bulb's life should be higher than 100w bulb. can anyone explain how to design the power rating of any electrical equipment in line of other electrical parameters.
Most equipment involves loadings on all the materials used and these materials have various load-carrying limitations. Design essentially balances these against each other whereby the materials' limitations often interact on the design. For existing design variation much empirical data and experience data will be available which will accelerate the design process but for a competely new design, the process may be iterative and toward the end may even need several prototypes to be built and tested. You can't merely change the resistance of a winding in a motor and get a higher rating. Things like core flux density and temperature-rise of insulation (affected by cooling, whatever type that may be) must all be checked. Lamp filament resistance is indeed lower for a higher rating but filament surface area (to get the radiation) and temperature will have to be decided which involves knowing and designing how the lamp radiates light and how it is cooled. The lifetime of a bulb can be quite precisely designed in, largely by the design temperature choice.
Q:if you've heard of the wilhelm scream, is there an equivalent for an electricity crackling sound?I've heard it in Star Wars, many cartoons, probably Spider-man (it's like imagine when some big electrical equipment goes wrong and starts producing sparks, or when you have some space laser gun that stuns people).Any idea?
I think it comes from Frankenstein, with all that electrical equipment they used
Q:i want to where I can transformator ( i do not know the name)But I whant to there is some equipment the you connetectwith your device it will change the current. And please wherecan I buy and approximatly what is the price?Thank you
yes u can but u would need a power volt changer to make them work in the usa the power converters cost between 10.00 - 100.00 dollars
