Q:I just don't understand it, what does it mean when people say 3 phase or 2 phase Voltage, I know higher phases are used to power bigger more voltage demanding things but what does it mean? Can you get both AC and DC in each phase? Is phase just basically saying higher phase higher voltage for higher voltage equipment? How do you convert between phases? Are high phases created with the use of transformers or can they be created directly from things like wind turbines? What is the maximum and minimum phase? How does the phase effect the amps?
Try this side. It has pretty graphics.
Q:I don't understand how oil and gas industry has anything to do with electrical engineering jobs??Am I not seeing this because currently I am working as a electronics engineer ? This is how I am thinking about this - Oil and gas industry , digs up oil , provides it to our cars and trucks so they can run. Now I don't understand how or where Electrical engineers come into play into this ?? Please make me understand. I want to know.P.s: I am an entry level electronics engineer, with a degree in Electrical engineering , Currently I am located in Houston, texas.
A great deal of electric power is used in extracting oil and gas from the ground, transporting it through pipelines, separating and refining the crude products and distributing the products. Electrical engineers design the required electrical equipment and the associated electric power distribution and control systems. In some situations, electric power must be generated on site rather than purchased from electric utility companies. In addition, electrical engineers are involved in the process instrumentation and control system design. The process control includes both computer systems and specialized electronic equipment.
Q:I have a dental Lab in Europe an want to move it to the States, maybe. Some of the equipment rates as high as 4kw, and the the total maximum draw is 15 kw for the whole lab. Can I wire a secondary breaker box in a building in the United States that is all 220?
tricky point lookup on to yahoo or google that will can help
Q:i'm from the UK and i want to take my GHDs, camera and phone charger, what kind of plug do i need and where can i get one, im going sunday
You can't use them. Plugs in Cuba use 220 volt and the plugs aren't the same as ours, and even more different from those in Europe. You can get an adapter that will make it fit, but it won't change the voltage/amperage/resistance. As soon as you plug anything in, it will start smoking or instantly catch on fire, even if you are using an adapter. Bring extra sets of batteries and leave the phone at home.
Q:Before anyone blindly answers this, I'd like to first request that only people in the power transmission industry answer, as they are the only ones likely to know.I have a customer who is asking to mount several very large pieces of electrical equipment 15 feet in the air, mounted to a large structure. All of these equipment pieces are 5000 or more pounds and pad-mount by design. I am questioning this request on the basis of legality. Basically, I am curious to know, is there anything in the NEC that says mounting pad-mount equipment overhead is illegal? If so, I could really use a hint as to what section of the NEC code.
I don't believe that there is anything in the NEC that addresses this. Obviously, installing anything on a structure presents challenges that require the attention of a qualified structural engineer. And depending on the location, you could be facing some additional concerns. You would need to check on seismic activity in the area, and since 'pad mount' equipment has a broad profile, wind-loading could be more challenging if you have a wind-force specification to meet. The other issue you would need to consider is whether installation on a structure presents any particular safety concerns. Without knowing any more, my inclination would be to think that you might want to provide an enclosure around the structure to prevent civilians (rmeaning 'teenagers and drunk college students) from climbing it. Just out of curiosity - why does your client want this? We know that the client is always right - even when he insists to stupid things. I trust there is a good reason for asking for something that is bound to increase installation cost by probably 100%.
Q:if you have worked in engineering consultancy, can you please tell me what are the typical projects you take and what exactly you do to help different firmswhy cant the firms do that stuff themselves , why do they need you badly ?
I do electrical engineering and do consulting for companies for the design of electrical systems of new plants. What my company and I do is to get the general power requirements for a large building or factory and specify what transformers, wiring, fusing, lighting, and power distribution methods they will need. Because of my education and my experience, I can provide a customer with the correct power and wiring specifications. The companies then can use my specifications to hire large electrical firms to install the electrical equipment and wiring. Firms normally do not do this for themselves because: 1. It is a one-time thing and they would not generally hire some one directly to do this. 2. Many firms cannot legally do this anyway because the state and local municipalities require a state-certified professional engineer and/or engineering company (like me) to design things like this. 3. It would be very costly and inefficient for a company to acquire this capability for a short amount of time. 4. On many types of consultancy, you want to hire another company because you may want a different point of view or perspective on the problem. 5. Many consultants can provide many types of engineering capabilities to bear on a problem, which can be impractical or expensive for companies to hire. Hope this helps Paul
Q:I am living in a state where there is lots of Electricity cut off in other words the Loadshedding. When I listen to radio on short wave and medium wave during no electricity ON in our town, it plays well and clear. But when electricity comes its totally inaudible because of too much noise like srrrrrrr, shrrrrrrr, trrrrrrrr. Means I have to turn my radio off. My question is what thing does this cause??
Some electrical item in your house or close by is radiating EMI (Electromagnetic Interference). The frequencies of this EMI are the same as the radio broadcasts but much stronger - swamping them. Hence you just here the noises you do. You should try switching off your electrical items one by one to identify the culprit. If it is not an item in your house, then there's probably not much you can do.
Q:and can they be prosecuted? (UK)
Most electrical or electronic equipment is governed by a user honesty system where if the interfere with other equipment they are required to fix it. Especially if it is ham radio or CB radio. If it is a sewing machine or other home electrical item ring your communications dept. and they will take care of it. Sewing machines can be quite noisy as far as signals and interference go. As far as prosecution is concerned, that won't be up to you. The relevant dept will make that call based on what sort of equipment they are using. I think you should find out which dept. is in charge of radio signals and the like and talk to them. Good luck VK3FMPB
