Q:We bought a second hand Rover 75, three months later head gasket blew. This was replaced but blew again due to original wet liners. A reconditioned engine was then put in but head gasket blew again due to original water pump. I am not trying to ascertain blame i would just like to know which is accurate as car seller is saying fault of mechanic as should have changed wet liners and water pump and mechanic is saying it is not common practice to change this parts when you replace a head gasket or engine. Thanks for any clarification, especially if you are a mechanic yourself.
Well the answer is..... I am going to take a guess that this is a Rover K series engine. They blow the head gasket just for something to do. Terrible problem when the engine was a 1.4 and it only got worse as they bored the engines out. The original fault will be poor maintenance and a failure to ensure it always has loads of anti freeze or corrosion inhibitor in there. That makes the liner to block interface corrode. The second is more controversial, if I knew the water pump was fairly new then I would probably not fit a new one with an exchange engine. If however the water pump was old or an unknown quantity then I would almost certainly change it, and the clutch too, if I had the engine out as it's such a fiddly job to do. BUT who was paying for the work? If it was you then this would have added a fair bit to the bill (if you didn't tell him to change it then really you can't complain that he didn't do it) and it it was warranty work then the terms of the warranty might set out what was supposed to be done. Q:I have a 1997 ford ranger, during last week i noticed that the temperature started to go up, i noticed that the coolant recovery tank was empty so i added coolant and it fixed the problem, but a day later i noticed that the tank was empty again since it started to overheat again. This time i let the engine cool off and checked the radiator water levels and noticed it was dry with no water, so i added water and noticed that i was leaking from what it seems the water pump (im guessing its the water pump because is behind the engine fan, behind the belts, its hard to see), Does anyone have a possible explanation or suggestion of what i should do? Thank you i would really appreciate it.
Hopefully you didn't run it to long while it was overheating. Your going to have to replace the waterpump from your discription it sounds like it's bad. It's not a hard job to do if your mechanically inclined. If not buy the repair manual to do it yourself or pay a professional.
Q:How does a pump get water from a low low elevation to a higher elevation.
The simplest form of water pump is a plastic spiral where the outermost spiral dips under the water and out as it rotates. The spiral can be driven by attached paddles if the water is flowing. As the water progresses down smaller spirals the pressure increases. The water exits through a rotating coupling at the centre of the spiral. A single stage pump can only raise water 15 feet (1 atmosphere) A windmill is a good example of a simple pump where a lever moves up and down, A valve closes at the bottom of a tube on the up stroke and raises the water by the length of the stroke. This water opens a second valve near the top of the tube as soon as the upstroke starts and the water is pushed up. This pump does not work by creating a vacuum. On the downstroke the upper valve closes due to the raised water pushing on it, and also due to its own weight, and the lower valve opens from the water below pushing on it as the cylinder descends. At the end of the downstroke the valve closes under its own weight and the weight of the water above it and the cycle repeats To raise water higher than 15 feet using a windmill, it is necessary to install a small tank at, say 14 feet, with a second lower and upper valve in a tube. The first stage pump fills the tank which the second stage pump then lifts another 15 feet, This process can be repeated until the water reaches the surface, but a bigger windmill will be needed to power multiple pumps
Q:I have an 02 Gran Prix and my water pump is going out. With the recession I don't have the money to take it in. So can anyone give step by step instructions to help me fix it. I am a do it yourself kinda of guy so I am mechanically inclined. What tools will I'll need? is there a timing chain? How long will you think it will take me? Any thing i should pay attention to? How can I measure the pounds of torque that I put on the bolts or what tool will I'll need? Please help!!!
WP replacement mini-writeup 1. Empy Coolant from Radiator drain 2. Remove SC and Acc. belts 3. Remove the coolant resevoir tank 3. Remove the Idler pulley with a 15mm 4. Remove the 4 WP pulley bolts with a 8mm 5. Remove the 2 Power Steering Pump bolts with a 13mm(bolts are at 12:00 and 6:00 accessable through the PS pulley holes) 6. Push PS pump 1 inch to the side 7. Remove all 8 WP bolts with a 13mm and a 10mm(3 are 13mm/5 are 10mm) 8. Collect extra coolant until flow stops(a few cups) 9. Apply RTV to both sides of the gasket and WP bolts 10. WP bolts should be torqued to 11lbs+80*/Idler pulley bolt at 36lbs/WP pulley bolts at ~9lbs 11. Reinstall everything and fill the coolant back up 12.
Q:I am a business man.My Instituate name is Rockydockyard. This Institiate build up Ships, containerships etc.So we found a high pressure water pump.

Q:The water pump needs to be replaced but now it is taking several attempts to start the car.
How can this simple question evolve into the previous nine answers? The water pump is belt driven and mounted on the front of the engine. The starter is electrically powered and drives the ring gear on the flywheel to start the engine. One has nothing to do with the other mechanically. Hard starting can have a hundred different causes, but keep in mind the starter's only function is to spin the motor over at a certain speed. Now for the answer..... The worn water pump is allowing the alternator belt to slip and the battery is not getting fully charged. The engine does not spin over at the desired speed and the engine gets hard to start.
Q:Pump suction and pressure side road why should vacuum table and pressure gauge, and what role they have?
The vacuum meter is used to measure the vacuum degree of the water pump before the water pump pumping, and to a certain degree of vacuum, the water can be sucked into the upward pressure position of the pump.A pressure gauge is used to indicate that the pumping is pressure in the pipe. The size of the pressure is related to the lift head, pipe diameter, atmospheric pressure and so on.
Q:Domestic pump automatic shut off the water, but also turn around, stop what happened?
What should have Water Leakage place, check all the toilet faucet is Water Leakage, Water Leakage, water heater and so on, if no problem, to check the pump, which has a check valve, when the valve is broken, can not maintain the pressure, there will be the phenomenon
Q:I have a 99 Olds Intrigue With the 3.8L (Vin K) engine. I have a belt driven water pump, but i was wondering if there is a fuse or relay that is associated with this water pump. I remember knocking a fuse out on accident while changing my radiator and now the water pump appears to not be working
Get back in the kitchen woman!
Q:My truck turned off by itself and a bunch of steam and smoke came out and my radiator was dry. To keep it running i had to have the engine revved and at a stop sign hold the brake down. and slightly press. I'm assuming its the water pump however. It started yesterday as the colder weather started. What my question is what do you think it is and if you have experience with water pumps, how hard is it to replace i found one for $14
that don,t sound like the water pump. if it was the pump then it would overheat and leak out. check to see where it,s leaking at. if it,s leaking from the pump then it will have to be changed even though it still might not help it to idle. it,s not really that hard to change the pump on a 351W . the hardest part is getting into it. you might have to remover some stuff so you can work. the belt and water pump pulley will have to come off and the fan but that should let you into the bolts.
