Q:My grandmother just purchased a new rug to replace her old carpet. It moves very easily so it was recommended that she buy rug padding and attach it to the floor under the rug. She's worried that it will need to be stapled to the floor and in the event that the rug needs to be lifted/moved in a hurry she wont be able to move the padding, and it could get damaged. So my question, more specificially: Is there another way to apply the padding under the rug without permanently securing it (ie: staples)? Or is there a special rug padding that doesn't need to be stapled? And in your opinion, will this alternative way make the rug just as immovable? Thanks!
You have 2 options: You can buy either a special non-slip mat/material or a double sided carpet tape. Both will prevent a rug from slipping and can be found at most hardware / building supply or most anywhere that sells rugs and carpeting [Bed, Bath Beyond, etc.] The mat material is rubber-like and grips the flooring of it's own accord [it's the same stuff as the rubber type shelf liner material] Padding is used beneath wall to wall carpeting.
Q:how to stretch existing carpet?
Believe this or not, it's pretty easy to stretch a carpet and tear it. This is something you have to be careful with. Take into consideration the age etc, be careful and don't overdo it. You can rent kickers and stretchers at many rental places but, like I said, be careful. One kick could ruin your entire carpet.
Q:My son got orange marker on our carpet, (which is the longer strand kind). I went to my old standby stain remover of vinegar baking soda which I've never had any issues with until now. Now the orange marker is gone but I have a fairly large spot that's now much lighter than the rest of the carpet! And the spot cannot be easily covered and is in a very visible place. Please help!
A friend of mine did it by a professional. Came out really nice and lasted for yrs.
Q:I've seen stainmaster carpet, and I was wondering which type of carpet resists stains the best. I'm redoing the carpet in a dining room, and my cats continually pee on the carpet in this room, so I need a robust carpet. Thanks!
I have Stainmaster ... and I have 3 dogs and a cat. My carpet is not yet 4 years old, and it is destroyed. Stainmaster isn't worth the time it takes to type the word. OK, the truth is ... if a stain is just on the surface, and you catch it and clean it RIGHT AWAY ... yes, you can usually get it out. However, if it soaks through, forget it. You may be able to get most of the visible stain out, but the smell? No way. If you could replace your carpet with Pergo, tile, anything BUT carpet, I'd recommend it. If, however, you do want to use carpet, I'd look into commercial-grade carpet. That's the stuff used in department stores, restaurants, offices, etc. Not too luxurious, but pretty tough. It is a very tight carpet ... most wet stains and spills will wipe up. And it can be vigorously scrubbed without damaging it. If you buy a carpet with an allover pattern, in a medium-to-dark tone, it will better hide the stains than one that is a solid color, especially a light color.
Q:Today I placed my laptop on the living room rug for a little while, and when I picked it back up I could feel little tiny bumps on the base of it. So I turned my laptop upside down and I could see about 30 or so super tiny bugs that were crawling around. They are so small that it's hard to say what color they are. But they are smaller than a grain of sugar! I do have two dogs, so I dont know if they came from the dogs, but I have never seen these things before. Does anyone know what they might be?
flees poor dogs must be itchy
Q:i've asked this question 3 times before, but it hasn't worked :(Red is booked in for a trace/blanket clip in a couple of days, and i was wondering if i would need to rug her up a little bit more? she is a thoroughbred chestnut (someone told me that chestnuts have thinner skin??) and is in a 100g fill w/ a neck rug atm....the coldest it has been lately would be about 10/11 degrees c....the next rug we have is a 250g fill with neck rug, so it's quite a step up...Um... yeah... would i need to start putting that on, or do you think she will be O.K??
It's too late to clip now really unless your horse is in a LOT of work, as it will take off the top of her summer coat so she will lose her coat's water-shedding and wind-proof qualities. If she still has quite a lot of her winter coat, I would say it's time to give her a good groom over with a shedding blade and rubber curry and a bath on a dry day if you can. If you really are set on clipping her for whatever reason, stick to taking the least hair off possible and go for putting her fleece or cooler rug under the light one in the day and the warmer rug on at night. You would be surprised by how cold it is at 2am!
Q:I'm in a 5 piece band playing in about a 20x20 room. 2 walls aren't covered with boxes and the floor is linoleum. It's really loud in there and we need to dampen the room to a bearable level. We were thinking about getting 3 or 4 rugs for said 2 walls and floor. But then we started considering acoustic foam. I'm sure acoustic foam is more effective than rugs, but since we're on a really tight budget, is it really worth it to spend twice as much on foam? Or will rugs suffice? Side question, if we get rugs, could we just get 2 and put them on the floor since i'm certain the linoleum is the main culprit, or do the walls probably need it to?
QUOTE: It's really loud in there and we need to dampen the room to a bearable level. Not to state the obvious, but the cheapest solution is to turn down. Look up the word dynamics in respect to music. Covering the walls with rug foam will help control echos and noise bouncing around....but loud is still loud. Also, if you ARE going to play that loud, please consider ear protection. I can tell you from personal experience that hearing loss is real. It's a weird feeling when you take a hearing test and you watch the doctor cranking the knobs up and you still can't hear anything.
Q:I need to clean a spot of urine from our oriental rug (from Dubai). It may have been a day old when I discovered it. I soaked up as much as I could with a paper towel but it has left a slight stain.

Q:read my other post
You can normally exchange or return unused items to Home Depot with a receipt. If you don't have the receipt then they give you a card with store credit for the purchase price.
Q:What color of the carpet looks good with white tile?
Black, green, violet and orange are all good, nut the whole room style and tone should be considered. But for the coordination of the whole style . yellow floor matches well with white, blue and many other colors if the color blending is the only consideration.
