Q:My house is 55 years old. They had vinyl floring in the bathroom. We wanted to replce the flooring but when we hauled up the vinyl, theres 2inch ceremic tiles underneath. I think the vinyl was glued down because the tiles are a mess. We bought some vinyl flooring to put back down. Whats the best way to do this? We were going to but 1/4 round but now the floors are tile underenath, and the walls are tile as well so we can‘t nail it in.: I had the same kind of bathroom. In the hardware store they sell an adhesive called liquid nails. We used that. Be aware, it can make a mess if you're not careful.

Q:how to tile vanity top and back splash?: No you don t have to, since this is really classified as a non wet area. I know you ll splash some water there but the basic tile will take care of that. You won t hurt a thing replacing the sheet rock with it but you don t need to. To tile a vanity top, secure ( glue and screw) 3/4 ply or 2 -1/2 ( cross the ply graining for strength ) ply to the counter top. Properly thinset and nail down (or screw down)1/2 cement board to the ply with proper length galvanized nails or screws. Thin set down your tile and grout after 24 hrs. Then re set you plumbing. I ve done a couple 100 over the years and not 1 failure going over the dry wall in this type of non wet area.. Wet areas such as tubs and showers I ve always used a cement backer board .. Q:I have gauges and scraps on my ceramic tile, i want to fix and even out the existing tile, then glaze it?: If these tiles are already installed I think you are out of luck for any long term fix. Ceramic tile glaze is fired onto the tiles in a kiln at very high heat. The firing makes the glaze and tile bond in a way that fillers, puttys, or paint cannot achieve. If your tile is that worn, it is possible that you have the wrong grade of tile for the situation where it is being worn so much. You may have earned yourself a new tile shower, floor, countertop, whatever....

Q:I am a big fan of tile in homes. I really love tile flooring and tiles in shower stalls, as it looks really nice and feels good on the feet lol. Is there any way to tell the difference between a porcelain and ceramic tile by looking at it after it is already installed? Friends of mine have tile in their kitchen on the floor, and I would like to be able to tell the difference by looking at it from an already installed view. This would also help for visiting other homes with tile, to better understand the difference in look and feel.: Once installed, no there is no way to tell the difference between ceramic and a porcelain.. Side views at a visible cut or whole pc is the only way to tell for sure. Pull up a in floor heat register ( if there is a forced air system) to see... A properly installed tile (ceramic or porcelain) will last the same , so porcelains ( unless a true porcelain and there is a major difference between a trus porcelain and the glazed porcelains most people sell) are over sold to the public. Q:on to ceramic tile and was told by ace hardware to use acryl pro ceramic tile adhesive ive layed a few tiles but i dont think its right. need some help, is this the correct procedure?????: the first thing you should do is make sure your floor is smooth, by smooth i mean filling all the grout lines in the ceramic tile. the self stick tiles will sink into any places that there is an indentation. i would NOT recommend doing what you are. the only way i MIGHT do this would be to glue, using lots of liquid nails, new laun over the tile then apply the self-stick tile

Q:I am currently removing old cork tiles from the floor of my house. They are stuck down to the cement and as I‘m chiselling them up I‘m being left with a lot of glue residue with fragments of the cork too. Any tips on easy removal of the old tiles, but more importantly removing the glue? We are replacing them with new ceramic floor tiles. I was thinking maybe a heat gun and a scraper to clean it up but Dad has suggested a grinder! Any experiences with fast and easy removal of residue? I‘ve still got a room of cork to remove so if there‘s a better way than hammer and chisel I‘d love to hear about it!: Just start scrapping it all off and patch the drywall after with drywall compound....then sand and paint....easy job

Q:We are building a house and were thinking about installing a tiled shower, but I heard from a friend that they get dirty quickly and are very time consuming.: They only get dirty if you don't clean them.Tiled showers are far superior to any other type of waterproofing on the market. They look better, they last longer and they get as dirty as everything else if you let them. Buy a shower spray cleaner from the supermarket and give it a blast every time you use the shower. Then once a week give it a good clean with a soap scum cleaner and it will stay beautiful for ever.

Q:We are in need of installing a tile back splash in our kitchen. Where can you find the best prices on tile? I live in the Atlanta area, and there are lots of places. I am just not sure what a good price is. We are looking for standard 6 x 6 tile. Also, is there any other way to save money in the process? We do have access to a wet saw to cut the tile.
