- Q:I am considering having Karndean flooring fitted in my living room, does anyone have this? It's the wooden floor full plank design that I am interested in. What exactly is it, does it look good, is it hard wearing, are there any negatives points about it?
- Karndean is a well respected manufacturer of vinyl both sheet and plank. Plank vinyl is almost exclusively for commercial use so I assume that your floor will be a sheet vinyl with a wood plank pattern. Karndean makes some of the best looking vinyl floors I have seen. The patterns are realistic and the textures match. It is sometimes hard to distinguish a high quality vinyl from wood until you walk on it. In comparison with other vinyl floors, there are no negatives. In comparison with real wood there are a few, such as lower durability. Vinyl cannot be refinished and look good after 80 or 100 years. It will hold up well though with good maintenance. You can probably count on 15 years. Vinyl is superior to wood in that it is not sensitive to water. All in all I am sure you will be satisfied with the appearance and quality of a floor like Karndean.

- You say laminate floor.. Are you getting the right stuff for what you have? When people say laminate floor, it s usually the floating floor where no glue is needed. If your saying laminate as in an engineered floor( which has a laminate surface) Most all wood floor adhesives will set and work the same. Where ever you got that product should have the glue for that wood. The use of a different adhesive than recommended can and most often does void your warranties If it is an engineeded wood, there are special trowels to use so please get the right type. GL

- A floor machine is the best answer to all of those issues. You see people in hospitals and stores use them. They basically have a spinning head that you can put a pad under so that the spinning motion will clean the floor. You can use regular mop water with these, and the pads come in varieties from soft, polishing pads to rough, Brillo-style pads for serious cleaning. If you don't want to invest in a floor machine, a mop and some stiff brushes are your best bet for cleaning, and an automotive buffer (with a polisher) for polishing. To save even more money, you could make an enzyme cleaner for practically nothing. These clean well and even give your floor a shine. I'll post a link to how to make these as my second source.
