Solar PV Panel 310W Polycrystalline Solar Module


Some recent solar module designs include concentrators in which light is focused by lenses or mirrors onto an array of smaller cells. This enables the use of cells with a high cost per unit area (such as gallium arsenide) in a cost-effective way.

Solar modules use light energy (photons) from the sun to generate electricity through the photovoltaic effect. The majority of modules use wafer-based crystalline silicon cells or thin-film cells based on cadmium telluride or silicon. The structural (load carrying) member of a module can either be the top layer or the back layer. Cells must also be protected from mechanical damage and moisture. Most solar modules are rigid, but semi-flexible ones are available, based on thin-film cells.

With tax incentives, yea it's worth it. It will take years to recoup the costs. You need to live there for a while.
Q:Why are solar panels only 0% efficient?
Sunlight comes in many frequencies, that's why it's white. Solar Photovoltaics require a photon to displace an electron from a semiconductor and that only happens at one frequency depending on what the semiconductor material is, therefore only one exact frequency gets turned into power. They are working on using organic dyes or quantum dots to absorb the energy in different frequencies and re-emit the energy in the desired frequency. They also are working on using multiple semiconductor materials to try and capture more frequencies. The rest of the energy becomes heat which also reduces the efficiency of the solar cells. The lab record for solar photovoltaics is 42.8% efficiency and quantum dots promises to be 65% to 75% efficient. Keep in mind that fossil fuels are based on energy collected by photosynthesis over millions of years. The efficiency of photosynthesis with modern plants is about 0.5% and the theoretical maximum efficiency of photosynthesis is 6.6%. All of our current energy use is based upon a small fraction of 0.5% efficiency over millions of years.
Q:Increasing Solar Panel Efficiency?
I am a senior in highschool and one of my classmates is basically a genius by all means that I can tell. He has already been accepted yo UNC Chapel Hill. His admissions statement was on exactly this subject. I proof read it for him. Anyways the basic problem with solar energy is that we can only harness about 20- 35 pecent of the energy and even less of that is converted into energy that can acutally be used. His argument is that if somehow we could harness chloraphyll which is the chemical which plants use to harness the suns energy and incorporate it somehow into our solar panels. We could harness up to 95% of the suns energy!!! Id deffinately look into this.
Q:Where can I find low power solar panels?
My suggestion is to first make sure that your calculator does not also use a tiny button cell. It could just be that the battery went dead. Also know that it's probably less trouble to just get a whole new calculator. If you have the skills to replace the solar cell, I'd suggest first disconnecting it, and wiring a .5 volt battery in its place. If that doesn't work either, maybe the problem is not the solar cell at all, but just its connection, or even a dirty ON button. As for where to get a replacement solar cell, if it were me, I'd go to a dollar store, and see if they have a cheap solar calculator that I could harvest one from.

How would a car with Solar Panels work in a city like London, Seattle, or Dublin, where it is cloudy and rainy more often than not? Unless there is a way to store up the solar power, I don't see it working very well.
