Q:Solar Energy - What would these solar panels power?
These panels are for small remote applications. Traffic signs, motion sensor lights, etc, where it would cost more to run an electrical line than it does to buy the panel.
Q:The future of solar panels?
Solar Panel really isn't any new technology, it was discovered in the early 60s. And as you can see it hasn't progressed all that much. But Developers are saying that within the next five years solar technology will increase dramatically. With more and more people looking for greener and easier forms of energy, there are many looking towards solar. In fact some energy companies are willing to buy the energy that you produce from you. And with new forms of thinner silicon panels, we are looking at a more efficient kind of panels. Unfortunately for us, at the moment thin-film panel silicon isn't as efficient as we are looking for. They are flimsier than the traditional panels and do not contain as much silicon to produce the electricity. But as soon as the demand increases, the production will increase, and if more companies are looking to invest in solar, then there will be more competition, with more competition- we are going to have improved technology, and with more improved technology, the prices will go down. Because at the moment, there is not much of an incentive for solar power. Compared to the Kilowatt- hour produced from coal and other forms of energy, solar does not produce as much. Experts are saying that within the next five years, not having solar panels on your house will be as silly as building a house without plumbing. The future on solar panels looks bright.
Q:Please differentiate b/w mono & poly crystalline silicon solar panels.?
In the practical sense, the differences are trivial. I'd buy on price per watt, unless space is at a premium (it isn't for most installations).
Q:Which solar panel should I choose?
The most energy effiecient PV cell in Australia at the moment is from First Solar they generate the most electricity compared to all units in Australia by an additional 6%. Not much but everything counts these days, especially with prices increasing over the next thress years (even without the CPRS) projections are (by IPART, who are the regulators that sets the electricity prices) rises by 46% (thats by Country Energy) and with the CPRS it was going to reach a 64% increase. The First Solar PV cells will give you a return on investment of around 2.75 years and generate electricity for 25 years (after 20 years they still generate Approx. 85% efficiency - best in market, I know I have been researching them for ages, and these are the ones I am installing !!!. Hope this helps. You need to choose a .5kW system, this will generate Approx $380pa
Q:when building a solar panel should the diode be on the positive or negative side?
Bypass diodes would be in parallel with groups of solar cells in a panel. For example, if a module has 72 cells, maybe every 8 cells, there will be a bypass diode. A bypass diode does nothing except salvage some of the energy from the panel if some of the cells are shaded, and others are not. Or, if you have multiple panels in a series string, the bypass diodes allow the other panels in a string to continue to contribute energy when one panel is shaded. Unless you're forced to put the panel(s) where there will be shade during the day, the bypass diode does not matter. Commercial panels all include bypass diodes. Blocking diodes are generally NOT included on commercial panels. If you're going to a grid-tied inverter, you probably don't need one. There are stringent regulations on how panels must be grounded, and whichever side of the panel is grounded should not have a blocking diode. NEC regulations call for a continuous ground to earth. For example, if you have negative ground on your system, the blocking diodes, if any, should go on the positive terminal of the panel. By the way, if you're in the US or Canada, do understand that a home-built panel will not be legal to connect to a grid-tied system. And a grid-tied inverter that plugs into the wall will also be illegal. I'm only saying this because I don't want you to get hurt, or your house to burn down. Line power is nothing to be trifled with.
Q:Is there any way I can get solar panels with my restrictions?
There are companies who would install solar panels on your roof for no cost. The catch is that they get the power generated for the first 20 years which is the useful life of the panels then you get what's left of the obsolete panels, meanwhile you're required to purchase your power from them at allegedly reduced rates but there is no guarantee that they would remain reduced versus the market once they have you locked in. It's like how the cell phone companies will give you a free cell phone if you sign a contract. Keep in mind that once you've factored in the installation costs and the useful life of the panels, the effective costs of solar photovoltaic energy is about 23 cents to 43 cents a kwh while grid power is about 5 cents per kwh to the consumer, 3 cents per kwh to the utilities for coal generation. It's just that so few people understand how to project an initial capital expense with periodic future returns through discounted cash flow, hence people think solar power is free out of ignorance. Without government incentives, there are no economic benefits to solar and most solar installers structure the sales such that they gain the economic benefit instead of the consumer who is often ignorant of how to calculate the financials.
Q:Solar panel for laptop?
Sorry, but you're looking at thousands of dollars to accomplish that. Solar power/panels aren't cheap enough yet to do what you're asking.
Q:Solar Panel Question...?
The best way to find out is to determine the wattage of each piece of equipment you want to use and how many hours you want to use those pieces of equipment. Finally, calculate the total number of Watt-Hours you need at minimum. Then you need to research solar panels or mobile wind mills (they need to be pretty huge to get a decent amount of energy I think, so solar power is probably the way to go). You will need to figure out the efficiency of the solar panels, the size of the array, how you will turn it or if you will turn it at all (to face the sun to get the maximum energy input, or maybe to use mirrors so you don't have to turn it. Once you find a good configuration for your mobile kitchen, you need to calculate if the Watt-Hours you will generate on an average day (with average weather) is enough to power the equipment whose energy requirements you previously calculated. Then you have to keep in mind that some days will have no sun, and you may not be working on some days, but you can still capture sunlight. For each case, a large battery array will be required. If you had a guage on that array, you could also hook it up to the a small generator in case you need immediate power. It's an eco-friendly process, but the initial cost is high and it requires a lot of research and planning. This is why most people do not do it--not because they don't want free energy from the sun, but because it's not easy to start collecting that energy in an efficient way. Sorry I couldn't give you more specific numbers, but a solar panel sales agency should be able to estimate whether or not you could do it (they'd probably set it all up for you too). ^_^
Q:Any companies that have solar panels?
It okorder.com They will rent you a solar panel system. You will pay a flat monthly rental rate that would be locked in for up to 25 years. There's no installation cost, No system to purchase, No permit hassles, No Maintenance fees and a locked in rate for up to 25 years. Check it out. I think you would like it. You won't own the system but you will save money and help our environment in a huge way. Also by renting a system you save yourself from future advances in solar. Example Things are changing fast in the solar industry. If you go out and buy a system for $40000 today and next week comes around and you can get a cheaper, more effecient system you would still have to pay for the one sitting on your roof.
Q:Do grid-tied solar panel systems have to be installed professionally?
By an utility approved qualified individual. The utilities really hate it if their maintenance people working on the power lines gets electrocuted because some solar powered inverter didn't shut off when they shut the line off.
