- To remove nail polish from carpets, nail polish remover will work but you need to use caution because it can also remove dye from your carpet or upholstery. You can try and bleach your carpet, but only if you have a white carpet. also; You can remove nail polish stain of a fabric, carpets, and counter tops using Motsenbocker's Lift Off #3. We tried it on our quilt an it made the nail polish stain just disappear, like magic! You can purchase it at any hardware store. We purchased it at The Home Depot for about $6.00. It also removes permanent ink and marker stains.
- Q:We just got laminate flooring. It's tongue and grove and looks like shiny cherry wood. We have a 5x7 area rug in the middle of the floor, it's just a simple flat maroon area rug bought from Walmart. Is there anything I can place underneath the area rug that won't scratch the flooring and that will keep pet stains from seeping through to the laminate flooring. - Hi - We have laminate (tongue and groove as well) and we have a new puppy who isnt house broken yet and is fond of rugs, why is that? Anyway, what we bought some of those pee pads and put them underneath the area rugs. If it seeps through then it hits the pee pad and we can remove it and replace it with a clean one - once we wash the spot of course. I put a little double sided tape between the back of the pee pad and the floor to hold it in place. So far that has seemed to work.

I have lived in my apartment for 8 years when my current lease expires.
- It sounds to me that since you have lived there for 8 years the 5 year scale has expired. Most carpets in the apartment rental business are prorated during the 1st 5-7 years. The $1200 must have been the value of the existing carpet or replacement value. Over the 5 years of the carpet's life if ever it were damaged and needed replacing, the $1200 would be prorated with X number of dollars deducted for each year of wear and tear. This means that after 8 years the landlord would get nothing for the carpet as it lived out its expected life. It is true that carpet quality varies but rest assured it is likely that an average quality carpet was installed when new. Prorating a carpet is based on: age of the carpet, quality of the carpet, how much the landlord paid, and expected life. I don't think you are going to owe anything for damage to the carpet unless the carpet was still in pristine condition and even then you would not owe very much.

- You will need to pull the carpet up, use a needle nose plier to do this. Start at the far corners. If you can pull the padding up - do that also. Then get some fans and put underneath the carpet and underneath the padding too. Sometime sticks or 5 gallon bucket will help to hold the carpet up. It will take days, but you need to get that water out of there. I've had to do this myself. It works - but takes a long time.

- Since you are a tenant, the carpet is the owner's property. You didn't mention if the wet spot smelled like mold so I am going to assume your answer would be yes. Since it has not been wet for very long from you, it may have gotten wet and moldy from a prior tenant and when it got wet from you, it reactivated the mold smell. The important thing is to get the water off the carpet from the top and under. If you have a wet/dry vac, vacuum as much as you can. You can also put towels down on the wet carpet and step on it. Keep doing that until you get up as much moisture as you can. What professionals do once that is done is they lift the carpet up and have a fan facing the wet carpet. The moving air will help dry it. You should not lift the carpet up yourself so you don't risk doing any damage to the carpet and have to pay for it yourself. As a tenant I would suggest you let the landlord take care of it. Make sure you put it in writing, depending on how responsive your landlord is. Date the letter and keep a copy for yourself. If the landlord does not take care of it within a reasonable period of time, you can call a professional and deduct it from your rent. If you do not have all of it in writing, you are not protected by tenant laws. I'm not sure what is considered a reasonable period of time for wet carpet.
