Q:I'm only 18 and don't know much about cars, but my car was overheating so me and my boyfriend brought it to a mechanic. They told me it needs a new timing belt and water pump and that alone would be like 1450.. From my research that sounds like bullshit. By the way I drive a 2000 neon, is it THAT hard to work on, or am I being ripped off?
Take it someplace else... I could be wrong but $1400 sounds to high.... maybe $400 would be closer to a correct ammount.
Q:can you replace a water pump gasket without replacing the whole water pump?
Of course you can they are two seperate items. Obviously you have to remove the pump to remove the gasket. Just make sure that the pump is in good condition, and use a little gasket silicone on the gasket. Dont overdo it with the silicone, just a thin smear on each side. Also make sure all traces of the old gasket are carefully removed from the pump and the block face. Any dirt or old gasket remnants left will cause a leak, so double check before replacing the pump to its position. Cheers
Q:I have a 1978 El Camino V8 305. My power steering has been going out on me, and since then my belt has been squeaking usually when it first starts up. This morning when I got to work, smoke was bellowing from under my hood. Im trying to troubleshoot. Is it possible that my power steering pump damaged the belt enough that the water pump went out?
If the same belt goes to the water pump and has been really over tighten. It can cause rear in the water pump bearing and damage the seal and cause it to leak out of the weap hole in the both of the water pump hub. Lack of water to engine to cool it can cause added damage. The hold cooling system need to be checked. Including the radiato cap. Usually when a belt sound off when it is started up. Means the belt is ware out. This vehicle the belt can be remove and take power steering toke out of the picture. It will mean hard steering till a new pump can be put on or a rebuilt pump.
Q:ok so i have a crack in my radiator a small crack but anyways yesterday it caused my car to over heat. i normally keep coolant in the car but it just got low and over heated pretty bad. so today the car is making a really loud annoying noise. coolant is also draining out of the bottom of the engine when the car is on. at a pretty good pace. it is coming out like right under the belt area so my friend said it is probably the water pump baring and he said it could have gotten damaged when it over heated. so i think these symptoms def point to the water pump. anyways i called a mechanic and he said that he had to change the belt to and he said he had to charge me $385. what you guys think. does he need to change the pump and the belt or just the pump? and is $385 a rip off or is that the going rate? thank you all for your knowledgeand information
That water pump is driven by the timing belt. Usually when you do a timing belt or water pump it makes sense to change both now because they are both difficult to get to and you have to take off the same things for both. $385 is a bad price If you want to look smart about it, ask him to look at and check the seals, all he would be able to tell you is if they are leaking, if they are, ask him how much more. It's all worth it if the car is still good. We just did that on a friend's '91 and her's overheated a few times. She ha 235,000 miles.
Q:changed the thermostat. it overheats but cools down a heat bar or two idling at stoplights. i filled up the coolant reservoir when i changed the thermostat, drove it about 2 miles(engine was already up to temp when i started) and it overheated. drove it two miles back going about 35-40 and it never went above normal but was still overheating. checked the reservoir and it was empty. stuffed a hose in it and plugged it up with a towel to force water in to see if it was leaking anywhere, no leaks. while running with the rpms up the top hose is easy to squeeze. makes me think water pump. but if i go over 45 it over heats makes me think clutch fan.
well if it is the water pump you will have a small hole ( tale tale hole ) and it will be leaking water to let you know its out. and clutch fan there will be alot of play i have seen people stop them with there hand but i dont advise it
Q:we live in the country in the warm months and have a portable pump that takes water from a 15 foot deep well. It feeds water to a toilet and a hot water tank mostly and a sink and shower and washer. We put the pump outside the bathroom and need to know how to start it, thanks!
There are so many different kinds, brands, types of pumps available for the purpose you're stating that it's not even funny, but for the purposes of this forum we will have to assume that it's a standard shallow well jet pump that draws water up from the ground and pushes it out the other side of the pump. Just in case you've never heard of the FOOT valve, it's what we've always called a check valve. It goes in the line coming up from the ground to stop the flow of water going back down the pipe once it's up and past the valve. That's what makes the pump keep it's prime, which is what you're actually asking, how to prime a pump. You'll need to open a pipe going into the top of the pump and pour enough water into it to make sure it's got plenty in the front casing. The pump shouldn't run dry. Once you're sure there's water in the casing then plug in or turn on the pump motor and continue to pour water into the pipe till it starts squirting out the top profusely. Then you can cap up the pipe and it should pump. If need be you can repeat till it catches.
Q:The wiper pump is broken. How much will it cost to fix it?
This can not be repaired, can only be replaced, change a thirty or forty
Q:How long would it take before I would see water coming out of the exhaust bellow? I let it run for about 5 seconds or so and shut it of fearing it would burn up. Did this a few times and finally gave up. Pump wasn't hot and impeller was still good. Wondering if I just didn't let it run long enough?

Q:I do pump sales ~ only to enter the line soon ~ often asked how many levels of motor? I can't recognize myself! So ask for advice here
Look at the speed, see the modelFor example, the actual 1430r/min synchronous speed is 1500 rpm, the speed formula: speed = time (60 seconds) * frequency (50HZ) divided by the number of pole pairs one pole of 2 pole, which can be calculated 3000 83019 1500=2 on pole or 4 pole motor.See model is more straightforward: for example motor model is Y 132 M- 4Y, three-phase asynchronous motor, the three-phase asynchronous motor product name: YR for winding type asynchronous motor; YB explosion-proof induction motor; YQ high starting torque of asynchronous motor. ?132, a high center (mm)M code, frame length4, the number of polesFrom the motor nameplate marked, you can see that the motor is 2, model FW12-2, speed 2840
Q:how much is it to replace timing belt and water pump on a Chrysler voyager 2002?????
Two engines were available in the 2002 Voyager - a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine and a 3.3L V6 engine. The 4 cylinder was timing belt driven but the V6 uses a timing chain with no set replacement interval. Replacing the timing belt and water pump in the 4 cylinder is going to be $500-$850.
