Just walk into a commercial vacuum store ask for it buy name. They will try to sell you the expensive ones, if you go in looking confused. All the cleaners walk out with this one including me. Its a floor vacuum as opposed to a hose, which gets clogged up quick. This vacuum is made to last it cleans with super power. The stores will not check your id to make sure you own a cleaning business, just act like you do.

- One reason only to use one with a cord!!! The cordless type don't have any power!! If they won't pick up all the kids toys they are not worth having.

- I'm assuming you no longer have the instructions that came with it? Google the make and model number there should be onlilne instructions. I've washed vacuum cleaner filters before, but they usually don't work as well after.

The reason the hoovers (sic) were so called is that it sounded terribly scientific in an age (many, many years ago) that the science was an ultra-important thing, to the average Mrs of a household, specially in America. But my theory is simpler - a goddam sucker does not sound so very nice, and in the 1930's it would not have gone down well with the middle class US who were the people who would be buying them. Not even 60 years ago in the uk, wives would beat the carpets on the line out in the back yard 'cos they no way could afford a 'hoover' - think on't, lad...... They had no washing machine. They hadn't even heard of a dish washer. Most houses here had not got central heating, a telephone of any sort, and half had no fridge they used a 'larder' and shopped every day since nothing would keep. Points to ponder, what your Gran and Parents lived through, innit?

- Unfortunately, you can't go by the advertised amps/volts/or watts. That only refers to the amount of power CONSUMED by the appliance. A motor that draws a lot of amps may simply be inefficient in its use of power. Better off to make sure the machine is warranteed to be returnable in case you get it home and don't like the way it performs. Don't buy a Kirby; way over-rated and not worth the high price!

- My floors are similar to yours. I bought a Dyson when I have carpet in all rooms and now that I in the living area, carpets in the bedrooms and some mats the Dyson still does an excellent job.wood. One trick I use on the wood floors is something my g'mother and mother did. They lived in duty parts of the country and vacuum cleaners were very basic. They would soak a large rag/towel with kerosene, roll it up and leave it for a few days to let the kerosene soak in well. They then would sweep the floors with ths cloth under the broom. Kerosene is slightly oily and the cloth held onto the dust. I do the same thing but use a floor mop instead of a rag prior to vacuuming. I am able to get into corners and dust the skirting boards at the same time.
