Q:On the issue of chemical reaction catalyst
The composition, chemical properties and quality of the catalyst itself do not change before and after the reaction; its relationship with the reaction system is as highly selective (or specific) as the relationship between the lock and the key. A catalyst does not catalyze all chemical reactions. For example, manganese dioxide catalyzes the thermal decomposition of potassium chlorate, accelerates the reaction rate, but does not necessarily have a catalytic effect on other chemical reactions. Some chemical reactions are not only the only catalyst, such as potassium chlorate can be thermally decomposed to catalyze the presence of magnesium oxide, iron oxide and copper oxide and so on.
Q:Why are catalysts so effective in small amounts?
By definition, catalysts serve to accelerate certain chemical reactions, by lowering the activation energy required for them to proceed. They are not consumed by the reaction, which is why they are effective in small amounts.
Q:What is the effect of the catalyst in chemistry?
Changing the rate of reaction can speed up the reaction and slow down the rate of reaction
Q:How does active charcoal catalyze in some chemical reactions?
Activated carbon is generally in the catalytic reaction to do more carriers, has not yet seen its catalyst to report.
Q:Does the catalyst slow down the chemical reaction rate?
The role of the catalyst is to change the activation energy to achieve the purpose of changing the reaction rate, there is a rate of response to speed up the rate of slow response
Q:Chemical master invited (about catalyst)
From the thermodynamics can be reaction, and the three formulas can be added to eliminate the intermediate product, indicating that the reaction may occur. The definition of the catalyst is not complete. I am a junior undergraduate student of Jilin University School of Chemistry, according to the definition of the catalyst in the university textbook, the catalyst itself reacts with the reactants to produce unstable intermediates. After the reaction is finished, the intermediate product is explained and the catalyst is reduced. Apparently did not participate in the reaction. So the catalyst to change the course of the reaction, the original reactants to go through a relatively high energy to produce products, there will be a catalyst after a few relatively low energy barrier, so much easier, the reaction rate is greatly accelerated The It can be seen, the catalyst is not no response, but only after the completion of the reaction to restore it. It can also be seen that the amount of catalyst does not matter, and some reactions require the amount of catalyst to be approximately equal to the amount of reactants. Waiting for you to high school and university to further study on this issue will have a more clear understanding of the.
Q:Question about catalysts and their function.?
Catalysts, as enzymes, only change the activation energy (the energy the compound needs to gain to transform into products), they don't change the Gibbs energy values of reactants nor products. Therefore, if the delta G of the reaction is positive, it'll still need free energy to complete. They make a reaction complete faster than in normal conditions, but don't change the actual possibility for that reaction to happen. In the human body, a lot of reactions of catabolism have a positive G value and these reactions needs to get energy from other coupled reactions that have a negative value, so the total value is still negative. Many of them use hydrolysis of ATP to provide that energy, as its hydrolysis is about -30 kJ/mol in physiological conditions. I don't know what class you're in to ask this question, so can't really know if this answer is too simple or complicated for u... sorry in advance! Joël
Q:how does the AMOUNT of a catalyst affect reaction rate?
It's more the surface area than the amount, but, in general, the more catalyst exposed, the quicker the reaction will proceed.
Q:Which branch of chemistry or what specialty can study the catalyst
Organic Chemistry: Application of Inorganic Catalysts in Organic Reactions, Preparation and Application of Organic Catalysts (such as Macromolecular Resins, Phase Transfer Catalysts), Preparation and Application of Catalysts for Organic Compounds
Q:Biology Question - Catalysts?
Organic or Inorganic - the catalyst (enzyme) must be organic to be found in the cell. Catalysts speed up chemical reactions inside a cell and must therefore be organic to be a functioning part of the cell. Reusable - There are so many reactions that catalysts are involved in that it would be a waste for the cell if a catalyst could only last one reaction, especially if there are inhibitors and competition for the active site. Catalysts must be reusable in order to keep the cell functioning. Catalysts always remain unchanged after a reaction. HIihly Specific - Catalysts are only made to catalyze one specific chemical reaction. Their active site has proteins bonded in such a way that only certain elements can enter the active site and H bond with those proteins. The fact that they are highly specific maximizes the productiveness of the cell. And it ensures that the cell only has catalysts to reactions that it needs to be completed. It also ensures that the elements are correctly bonded with eachother. If any two elements could enter the active site, there is no guarantee that the correct product will be produced. Catalysts and Enzymes must be super highly specific in order to properly function. Lowers Activation Energy - The more energy a cell has to spend to catalye a reaction, the worse it is for the cell and the less ATP is has for other reactions. Catalyts hold the substrates together so there is less energy that is needed to have the two substrates react with eachother. Activation Energy is the energy that is needed to start a reaction. So the less energy used by the cell for reactions, the better for the cell. Hope this helps
