Q:The water pump on my 1997 corolla has been leaking, I want to replace it by myself. I did some research online, and get the diagram of the engine structure. It seems to me it is not very hard to do, but who knows, it might end up being a very tricky job. Did anyone replace the water pump on 97 corolla before? How difficult was it? Two things I actually worry: 1. It might be hard to unbolt the water pump pulley, because there is little room insert a wrench. 2. Also, because of the lack of room, it would be also hard to unbolt the timing belt cover (the 2nd/middle cover). A shop gave the quote of $440 to replace the water pump, and I think I should be able to do it myself.
You'll need to have a 1/4 drive short extension and 10mm socket to get the t-belt covers off. Also be sure to loosen the water pump pulley's 4 10mm bolts before removing the alt/ac belt to ease getting the pulley off. Your also going to need to support the engine when you take off the motor mount to gain access to the t-belt. Good luck and hope this helps. The hardest part of the job usually is getting the p.s. belt loose due to it's location while doing the job on the ground. Also you may want to invest in a repair manual so you line the marks up correctly, it's imperative that you have them exactly lined up.Good luck and hope this helps.
Q:All the water to my house comes from the river close by - via a 1500kw surface pump, into a large pressurised tank. If there is ever any kind of blockage in the pipe - or if it freezes ...this causes the pump to run - 'dry' - which eventually burns out the motor. I have lost 2 pumps so far because of running dry - and they are very expensive.I would like to fit some kind of automatic cut-out - that will ALWAYS stop the pump running after 15 minutes or perhaps less - as that is ALL the time it needs - if the water is flowing freely - to fill the pressurised tank. I feel sure such a thing must exist - but I do not know what it is called or where to buy one. Does anyone know of a 'switch' of this kind? And where to look for one? What could I put into google to do a search - for suppliers and prices, please?
the best thing is buy a submersable pump it is cheap and never burn
Q:I have a 1997 15hp Mercury 2-stroke outboard. When I run it it runs great and does what i want it to do. However, sometimes it doesn't pee. I can still hold my hand in the stream when it does but its very very hot. It always pees when i run the motor WOT but when im just chugging along it goes out for a bit and then comes back on. Is this supposed to happen? I was told by my dad that the thermostat regulates the pump so that it doesn't cool the engine down too much. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated
The radiator actual holds the water/coolant and the pump circulates the combination in the process the engine. Upon returning to the radiator, the water is cooled from air passing in the path of the fins of the radiator. The pumps activity is to circulate the combination to confirm that the nice and cozy water to relax for this reason, the engine is then cooled.
Q:Ok, here's my problem. My parents bought this house a few years ago. No problems at first, but then during Hurricane Katrina, the basement started to flood from the heavy rains. Now whenever it rains, it floods. We have a half bath down there and the water would drain out in the shower drain. Now no water drains out, and we've already check the drain for clogs. It's clear. We currently have to bucket the water out.I'm looking for a good water pump to get them before I move out. I'm not sure if it has a sump pit or anything. We don't particularly care if we have to pump it out through a window or anything, as we have a pasture next to us. I just need something that could pump out the water when it rains. Preferably something not too expensive but that will still get the job done.Note: This is in Louisiana; lord knows what compelled the people who built this house to build a basement.Any suggestions/advice are much appreciated.
The fact that the water comes only from the drain, (if I understood correctly) and it only began to happen after Katrina caught my attention. You state that the basement was dry before am I correct? And that there is no leaks on the walls and floor. Just the drain. So here's what I think might be happening and I suggest you look into. 1- Your waste water/sewage line might be linked to the city's rainwater drainage system. They used to do that a while ago and if your house is old enough that might be the case. New building codes now strictly forbid it because in case of heavy rain, the rainwater system overflow and cause basements to flood with wastewater, which is a health hazard. If that is the case you will want to disconnect that drain from the discharge line and install a sewage pump to deal specifically with wastewater. 2- The waste water discharge line is clogged or collapsed at some point during when Katrina hit. Again you will want to install a sewage pump. It is not a good idea to rely on gravity drains to get rid of water in below grade structures anyway. That said, considering that you live in a problem region, I'd suggest you also install a good sump pump system, with battery operated backup pump like the SuperSump, separated from the sewage pump, to deal with ground water and heavy rains. In Louisiana I would even consider a TripleSafe system which has 2 powerful backup sump pumps, one of which is battery operated, an automatic switch system and an alarm to let you know when the backup pumps are on the job.
Q:the outboard runs fine and pumps water out with muffs on but when i put it in the water it doesn't pump any water at all. could it be that the impeller needs replacing? what do you think?thanks
No question about it. Replace the impeller. It's easy - the hard part is getting the fasteners off without breaking a stud. Be patient and use liquid wrench and give it an hour or more to work. Tap the nuts and then try them. A final resort would be careful (very careful) use of a propane torch to free the nuts. If not replaced, eventually blades will break off the impeller and foul the cooling system.... which can be a very expensive and difficult repair.....overheating is also very bad for the engine.... so fix the water pump.
Q:Can the water from the fire pump enter the roof fire tank? Why?
Here is the concept of "fire water tank", if the roof has fire water tank, fire pump should be able to roof fire water tank water supply, as long as there is sufficient pressure on the line. However, if the roof water tank is only a living water tank, the fire pump is not started, this is the two pipelines.
Q:I recently changed the lower unit, and am having no water out the top 2 ports just below the powerhead, also the engine is getting heated up. any other pumps other than in the lower unit?any advice is appreciated.
well on my mercury i have a water impellor/you have that 2 thermostats/dont know if you have them and a popit valve those 3 things check them
Q:The wiper pump is broken. How much will it cost to fix it?
This can not be repaired, can only be replaced, change a thirty or forty
Q:we are trying to replace a water pump on our ford windstar mini van. my uncle cant figure it out and we can not get a manual until tomorrow. was wondering if anyone knew how. thanks
96 Ford Windstar
Q:What do water pumps do on a car?
the pump circulates the water throught the cooling system. when they fail the engine will overheat... but keep in mind you have other parts that work in conjuction with the pump like the thermostat which opens and closes at certain temps to keep the coolant at the proper working temp so the car runs correclty...if a thermostat fails and is stuck closed you can overheat also or if stuck open then the coolant may run to cool and the car may not run at its best. good luck
