- Q:Every fall we put plastic on the outside of our windows to provide added insulation during the winter. The plastice we use is said to be clear but isnt. It always ends up that we cant see out the windows all winter. It really sucks. Does anyone know of an insulating plastic that is trully clear and will allow us to actually see out the windows?
- Use pure clear garbage bags and double sided tape on the inside of the windows, only cut out the center part of the bag or sheet, and tape the loose part down what it will look like is a picture frame, leaving you your window to look out but smaller. The part that leaks around a window is the frame and where the glass meets the frame,
- Q:..The cardboard part is recyclable, the twist ties are reusable, wrapping paper and ribbon have reuse or recyclable value. I can't think of what to do with the plastic part.

- Q:my friends tagged my jeep like last may for the end of skool with window chalk... i got the stuff on the front and body off but the plastic windows left a light but noticeable stain... and they just tagged it again for the start of skool and im having a real hard time getting this one off is there a trick or something to buy to get this stuff off... o yea and i have a tear in my jeep window is there a way to fix that without tape like melting it back together or some waterproof glue Solution
- you can try paint thinner on a rag .....not sure if it will take the stain out of the plastic or not but it should get the chalk off without a problem. not sure what to tell you about the rip in the window tho....sorry. hope the paint thinner works for you, just use caution cause the thinner is a harsh chemical. good luck. it might burn ur skin a little but wash with soap and water afterwards....your skin and the window to play it safe.
- Q:will any type of plastic work for insulating windows?
- I would suggest the type that are like storm windows. They are double layers and create dead air spaces that stop the heat flow -- not much of an R value, but better than thin plastic sheeting. R= 1 (for the really cold days, the best insulation for windows is to cut a 1 inch thick foil faced styrofoam sheet - cut it to size so that it pressure fits inside your window framing. = R = 6.5
- Q:Have very little budget to work with, paid Marshall Construction of Kalamazoo to do the roof, haven't seen him since (Even with the contract), windows are in really poor condition and need to be replaced but don't have the funds to do it (Lost job like everyone else in Michigan). I have almost a zero budget to do this thanks to people like Marshall construction. Any suggestions how to get this 900 sqft home to stay warm without the furnace always working?
- Plastic on the windows really does work.. I lived in a really old house in Ohio and the windows were so bad that you could feel the cold air coming in... We used the window kits and it really kept the heat in ! We also used some plastic opaque sheeting on the outside windows which didn't look too great on the outside but, it helped greatly. Also, in our basement we have a device hooked up to our dryer.. It looks like a standard dryer hose but, instead of blowing all the nice hot air outside it's got a fine mesh screen and it blows the hot air back inside the house.. GREAT for when you are doing laundry. We also use a newer style baseboard heater in our main living room/family room. We bought the heater a few summers ago when it was on clearance..It's very safe and energy efficient. I also use heavy curtains to keep heat in a particular room. We keep our thermostate at around 60-64 degrees.... In our new house it's a 1700 square ft. ranch.. We are fortunate enough to have a wood burning stove.. Which has cut our gas bill in half ! - Q:So we just moved into an old home that is notorious for being difficult to keep warm in the winter. The previous tenants had plastic on the windows to keep the cold out. Well, its July here and keeping the cold out is no longer a concern. The plastic looks terrible and if its not serving a purpose, I'd like to take it down for the summer and fall season. So, is the plastic keeping the heat out right now? Does it serve a purpose?
- rip it off - the best thing in the winter - is styrofoam covering windows - its 1/2 inch or thicker - insulates way much better - with plastic over the styrofoam - teeth cold - summer - take them off - reinstall for winter - and for an extra bonus - the home invader wont see whats coming to his face breaking in - TACTICAL ADVANTAGE AND A GOOD ONE - yes take down the plastic - too hot in summer
- Q:Looking for an actual number, not a quot;go call the builderquot; response. I already did that. Still looking for an actual savings amount though. Anybody do this and can give an example of energy savings?

- Q:My son sprayed 50 SPF sunscreen on the front of our washer and dryer I have tried everything and nothing seems to take it off. It just leaves a haze on the clear plastic. Any suggestions?

- Some autoparts stores carry stuff, but I would try flitz. They make an array of cleaners for convertible tops and windows.
- Q:I don't mind if its designed for another brand but I am getting very frustrated because I can't find it on GE's site or any other. I bought the unit without it in hopes I could find one online but can't find the specific one. HELP! The piece is the one that sits in the window to hold the hose in the window. The unit is a Portable AC which means it sits on the floor not in the window so its got specially designed plastic plate piece that is adjustable for your window size.
- Measure the window opening and go to a glass place with the hose and have them make you a lexan piece to fit the window with a hole in it. Lexan is very sturdy. You can run a rod straight thru the outside part of hose to keep it in place or tape it. It isn't like some technically expensive part to make. Actually it will probably be better than original. BTW, keep the hose as short as you can as it gets warm and heats the room as the compressor cools it. I had one and the closest I could get was 5 feet and it didn't help at all.
