Q:whats the difference between gypsumboard and plasterboard?
Plaster board is water resistant. Gypsum board is regular sheetrock and needs to be taped with join compound as apposed to plaster.
Q:Cross stud is in the wrong place so can't fix to that. The cabinet is large and the ceiling is sloping (attic) so I'm restricted in where it can go. I can see a cross stud but it's not wide enough - when I marked the screw holes the screwdriver went straight through and didn't touch anything. Will toggle bolt type fixings be adequate don't want it too fall off wall with everything in it and break the basin and tiles!!
You local DIY shop will stock plasterboard plugs, same as a rawl plug but designed for plaster board. There are two types, firstly plastic ones with two hooks the spread behind the plasterboard. Secondly threaded aluminium ones that you screw in to the wall with a Phillips screwdriver. I would recommend the aluminium ones as a bathroom cabinet can be heavy when full. I have used these plugs to put up kitchen wall units without any issues :-)
Q:What distance do the dry wall screws have to be and what do i fill the joint gaps with before plastering. Is there a british standard ?
I would nail it with sheetrock nails.......but if you are pounding on someone else's half of the wall I would use sheet rock screws. You can put one in about every 8 across a stud. Try not to break the paper. For the joints instead of paper tape I use fiberglass self sticking tape.........it's usually blue or yellow and mud right over it. If you are going to plaster it well that's the same tape but a little different application of the mud. I just hand texture the mud and do a knock down trowel finish.......it looks nice.......and is fairly simple to do.
Q:What is the proportion of gypsum board?
Gypsum board generally used surface density measurement, for example: 9.5mm thickness gypsum board, the national standard requires its surface density to be less than 9.5Kg / m2, but most of the better quality gypsum board density control in (6.5-7.2) Kg / M2. If compared with the density of water, the proportion of ordinary gypsum board is less than water. But the refractory board due to gypsum core inside the addition of glass fiber, depending on the amount of added, the density may be greater than the density of water.
Q:Haha, my Mum wants to know. Can you use Stud Adhesive? Or is there something else you must use? Thanks heaps!
you dab the wall with plaster board adhesive.mix to a thick consistency.dab is method of flicking the adhesive on to the wall with a trowel.and firmly smack the board with a straight edge (long spirit level or a piece of wood) from one corner to the Other that makes sure the board goes on firmly and level
Q:Why is gypsum board a good interior wall of the building material, but can not be used as a wall envelope?
Gypsum board is not waterproof, as the external wall envelope, is unable to resist the rainy weather. Gypsum board is a good reason for the building's inner wall material: (1) low production energy consumption. For the production of gypsum board glued gypsum plaster, the unit production energy consumption 78% lower than cement. (2) light insulation, with gypsum board for the wall, the weight of only 1/3 of the brick wall. At the same time, due to the porous structure of gypsum board, its thermal conductivity is 0.30, compared with brick (0.43) and concrete (1.63), excellent insulation performance. (3) has excellent fire performance, due to the release of gypsum heat when the water resistance of its resistance to up to 2h or more. (4) decorative function is good, gypsum board surface smooth, between the board and the board through the cement material can be firmly bonded together to form a seamless structure, building decoration effect is good. (5) can be a good construction, gypsum board can be nailed, can be saw, sticky, the construction is very convenient, with it to do decoration, you can get rid of the traditional wet operation, greatly improve the construction efficiency. (6) comfortable living function, because the gypsum board has a unique "breathing" performance, which has the ability to adjust the indoor humidity, so that living comfort. (7) high production efficiency. Conducive to the realization of large-scale production, in a variety of building plates, gypsum board production efficiency is the highest, easy to large-scale production. (8) low investment Gypsum board production equipment and fiber gypsum board, compared to cement puff board, due to the realization of continuous mechanized production, equipment utilization is very high, less equipment investment.
Q:We have recently had a fairly big extension and now a considerable amount of our walls are plasterboard. I had painted one room a couple of months ago and now some of the screws have popped through from the plasterboard. I am now at the point where I need to paint my hall but I am reluctant to do this if some of the plasterboard screws are going to show through again. Should I get the walls skim coated or if any of the screws were going to pop would they have done so by now. Also is it expensive to skim coat?P.S I did paint the bathroom ceiling and first coat the surface was fine, went to give it a second coat and one of the screws had 'popped' Am I doing something wrong with the paint?
sounds like the screws were not properly set or sealed to begin with- probley just poor workmanship. Just so ya know after the screws are put in they need to be sunk in a bit with some pressure - then sealed with mud or patch. I would guess your contractor did that already. ? and are you sure they used screws? i only ask cause sometimes nails are used and they pop causing the problems you mentioned- but the right screw is used it is uncommon that would happen. If you live in a moist area where there is high humidity - it is possible that the plasterboard has expanded a bit pushing the screws out- you can have the humidty levels checked - or you can probley feel if there is excess moisture in the room and maybe that can be cleared up with good ventilation. It is also possible they did not use a long enough screw, or the beam was not hit when it was screwed in- if thats the case then there probley is no remedy except basicly removing all the screws and repositioning them.
Q:I have just had a new Combi boiler fitted and have had the old back boiler and fire disconected. The fire place in which the backboiler and fire fitted in is 18 inches deep and 4 1/2 ft wide and is plasterboard on a wooden frame. There is a thermalite chanell that the flue pipe runs up. What we would like to do is rip the plasterboard section out to open up the room more, I am not sure about whether it is safe to remover the thermalite bricks or not???
Sure. Use dynamite.
Q:What are the classification and use of gypsum board?
Gypsum board, including gypsum plaster board, fiber gypsum board and insulation paper gypsum board three. Paper gypsum board is divided into: ordinary paper gypsum board, water-resistant plaster board and refractory plaster board. Fiber gypsum board is divided into: general fiber gypsum board and fiber reinforced hard gypsum pressure plate. Insulation paper gypsum board is divided into: trough composite gypsum board, polystyrene composite gypsum board and polyphenylene keel composite board. The specifications and uses of the various gypsum boards are shown in Table 10-71.
Q:Bedroom ceiling with a good board or gypsum board good? What is the advantage? What is the downside? what is the price?
I think it should be based on personal preferences and the overall environment to decide it? It does not matter good or bad, each have their own advantages. Gypsum should be cheaper than the board, the market price should be inconsistent everywhere. You can go online to inquire.
