- Q:Can you get an electrick sock when you slum the door of your car and touching the rubber/plastic where the window holds on to? isn't plastic an islulator?
- i would love an electric sock
- Q:rail that holds window fell, i took apart and see thta two lil plastic white bushings was broken. but cant seem to find it online or at parts store... there really aint many junk yards around here. do i really have to buy a whole door kit to get this fixed????
- SUPER GLUE!!! Nah, I'm just kidding. I am fixing to go MacGyver on you though. So you'll need a ball point pen, some Velcro strips, and four washers. If all else fails, if you can't get the specific parts from the dealer ( sometimes they sell them, sometimes they don't), if you can't find a junk yard, or for whatever reason. Take your window out, take apart the pen, cut it to fit through holes in the window, cut some square pieces of the soft Velcro to fit behind the washers(cushion), use some adhesive( a dab of rtv or something) to hold them in place and rivet. I've used this ancient art of the Mexican ways for generations... I now pass this on to you Grass Hopper!! If this doesn't work, get a paper clip, a piece of gum, and a pocket knife, and blow it up... LOL. But seriously give it a try if all else fails. You might end up having to use a combination of different things, but you get the idea.
- Q:I need to mask some windows off using just painters plastic and 2quot; tape. My problem is where I'm supose to lay the tape is flush with the glass. Am I supose to cut the plastic to size, tape up the corners and then tape seams? Sorry, new to airless.
- You got it Tape windows first, use a razor knife for corners. Now tape plastic to the tape on windows. Cut plastic smaller then window so you tape on tape.
- Q:will any type of plastic work for insulating windows?
- I would suggest the type that are like storm windows. They are double layers and create dead air spaces that stop the heat flow -- not much of an R value, but better than thin plastic sheeting. R= 1 (for the really cold days, the best insulation for windows is to cut a 1 inch thick foil faced styrofoam sheet - cut it to size so that it pressure fits inside your window framing. = R = 6.5
- Q:Is plastic on my windows just as good a drapes for the winter?
- why not both ! 3M product is really good ,very clear
- Q:Does that thin plastic window covering people use during the winter really help any?
- Yes! I leave it on many windows all year 'round. It makes your home quieter also. I also put caulk on the edge of the window frame next to the wall/sheetrock to block out more heat-loss. When you install the plastic, don't initially put the plastic on too tight. Use the hair-dryer to smooth out the wrinkles on the plastic. If your windows get a lot of sun, the heat from the sun will also smooth out the plastic. Before you install the plastic, clean the windows well and use clear caulk at the edge of the window glass and the window frame. Caulking the window first, makes your plastic covering work even better.
- Q:97 Wrangler soft top. I scratched the plastic up and would like to polish it out. Any tips?
- I own an acrylic fish tank and the local pet store sells scratch remover for the acrylic plastic tanks, I think it's worth a shot!! Good luck!!
- Q:We live in an old, very poorly insulated house, and it's very drafty/cold during the winter. We've tried two-sided insulating tape that you put in the window sills, caulk strips that you put around the frame, etc. and none of it works. Is it worth the money to buy the plastic that you can put over the outside of your windows? The draft seems to be coming from where the window itself meets the sill, but also around the perimeter of the window (where the edging/molding is attached to the wall). I've read a few articles online about quot;how toquot; install plastic, but they all say that the plastic comes in kits and you need to attach it with the included double sided tape to your wooden window frame. our house is brick and there's not much of a frame outside. What little wood there is has been painted over many times, and I doubt tape would stick to it. Should I try to do it anyway? Is it worth the cost?
- You can caulk around the windows first. That should have been done at instalation. If you need to, you can use 100% silicone to adhear the plastic to plastic and it is easily removed in the spring. Do a test section and let it cure for 48 hours and see how it holds and removes. I never did it but I do alot of caulking. If you dont seal the draft, no matter what you do, it will eventually blow off.
- Q:I have a window that is bigger than the largest piece of plastic i have, is there a way to use 2 pieces like tape them together or something?
- Use clear tape to attach them together The wider the better. Lay the plastic on a flat surface, a table if it is big enough or you can use your kitchen or living room floor. Place the 2 pieces side by side (edge to edge). Cut 2 very small pieces of tape and attach them, one at the bottom and one at the top, to secure the plastic and keep it from sliding around while you tape the entire thing together.
- Q:In my bedroom I have an arc-shaped window over the regular window. There are plastic grids between the panes of glass for decoration. One of them fell to it's side. Is there a way to fix this without replacing the window? Thanks!
