- Q:i have moisture on the floor all along one of my walls, about 6 or 7 boards have to be replace.the floor is just glued to the concrete slab, i went to homedepot to buy something to apply to the concrete or something to apply before installing the new floor, but the clerk told me i have to replace the whole floor, because there is nothing to apply before the floor and underlayments are too thick and the floor would not be leveled.Please can anyone help me with a solution so i dont have to replace 1000sq ft of floor.thank you
- You definitely do not have to replace 1000 ft2 of floor. The problem you are having is one of the reasons I did not go with the glued floor, I could not figure out how to vapor proof the floor from water. I would take out the boards that are bad and then asses the problem if you have to take out one more farther in to get a good place to bond to. I replaces a piece in the middle of a regular hardwood floor once and it takes a bit of time and patience to remove the bad piece without messing up the good ones that can be left. If you can leave the toungue or groove on the mating piece to match up to. Make sure the area is clean of the old glue. I would then get some of the cushion vapor barrier that you can buy and put it under the boards that are going over the moisture problem area. I do not think a coating would work. A 1/8 inch layer should not be noticeable and if it is go back and remove another board to lessen the slope of the floor. You could also use some 15 pound roofing felt to give a vapor barrier. Then when you glue back try to attach the new boards to the underside of the old boards so that glue does not come through. And note before you do this I would go to a wood flooring store and ask an experienced installer if you are going in the right direction. If you plead stupidity it is remarkable what you can learn from some of those old guys.

- Q:I have purchased all the wood and am having a guy install my wood floor. I've purchased a good adhesive to get the floor to adhere to the concrete underneath. Now I am wondering if I need a glue to slather into the tongue and groove joints? Your thoughts?
- If you have the proper glue to adhere the engineered wood to slab you most definitely do not need any glue for the tongue and groove. You only need the special sized / shaped trowel. Gluing the t/g together is only done when creating a floating floor system from engineered wood. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- Q:I recently just installed engineered wood click-lock flooring (floating) over plywood subfloor on our second floor and I noticed some hollow or bounce spots near the entry of the room. The subfloor is plywood and it has a layer of foam underlayment on top and then the flooring. Question: to fix this problem, can I just nail some high spots down to the plywood? I really want to avoid redoing the whole room if possible. What are some other options that I have? The subfloor is not perfectly leveled but it is pretty leveled (I sanded them).
- sanding the plywood would not make it level, and do not nail into the floating floor this will defeat the floating system and may cause other problems down the road they are floating to allow for expansion and contraction with seasonal changes and nailing a few spots could cause unsightly gaps or even splitting of the material later on and most likely void any warranty since thats not the recommended or proper procedure if there was a fairly large dip in the subfloor this should have been leveled before the install of the finish flooring, some bounce is to be expected from a floor on top of foam underlayment though if its excessive the flooring would need to be removed and low spots in the subfloor filled in with a leveling compound
- Q:I'm considering installing Thomasville's Walnut engineered flooring, or solid Bamboo flooring from home depot throughout my upstairs. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that has installed either of these products. Specifically, do either of these floors dent and scratch easily? I have three cats, two children and my massage business in my home. Does one of these outshine the other? Does either hold up as well as any other product you might have experienced? Do you know of anyone who has used these? They are similar in price, so that is not a factor. Thanks and I look forward to input anyone can provide!
- i've been building homes for 12 years and all hardwood floors scratches and dents but on site floor finishing products are the best. ( the kind thats not prefinished ) maple and oak speicies are very hard.
