Q:is my solar panel big enough?
If a car battery contains 50 amp hours of charge at 2 volts, that's 600 watt hours of energy. divided by 34.03 watts, 7.63 hours to charge completely in direct sunlight. You don't want to connect them all in series. You want about 4 or 5 volts to charge a 2 v battery, so you should connect groups in parallel, and connect those groups in series to make your voltage. You'll end up with the same amount of power, lower volts and higher amps. It will work for trickle charging your battery if it's not too far run down.
Q:Solar Energy Panels, a good idea?
Yes, but it is still very expensive at the moment. Look into solar leasing where you rent your roof to a company that installs and owns the panels and pays you a portion for surplus energy beyond your usage. For your Sahara synario, each country can deal with its own power needs, to bring the power from the Sahara to another country is not doable, each desert area could power its nearby areas, when the need and desire arises. In most continents of the world, individual countries are more concerned with basics, clean water and food, and most dont do a good job at providing that, solar power to poor nations, although its a good thought, just isnt a concern now, its clean water and food, medicine is more important. The big picture warrants more diverse ways to get power, but the world is not as one, the countries do not discuss their needs with other countries. Some countries come to the rescue of others on their own if allowed to. Someday, hopefully the world will be more eco friendly, and peole wont starve to death daily

You did not give the details of how the legs are attached to the panel. I did some calculations on my right triangle analysis application. Based on an assumption that the legs are vertical and attached to the bottom of the panel top, i calculated the legs must be 6.97 inches long. This compares favorably with the 8 inches you quoted. t If my assumption is true, the leg length for a 7 degree angle is 2.925 inches. The configuration, if my assumption is correct, will be a right triangle. The hypotenuse (longest leg of the triangle) is the panel length and the vertical legs are the supports.
