I work for CSA as well, first off are you western or TCN? If you were offered a specific position and didn't get it you should be talking with HR. Or get a Kuwaiti lawyer the company is in violation of labor laws. CSA lately has been doing some very unethical things and are going to get caught.

Q:I am buying a portable generator in order to power up to six, 500 watt halogen work lights to light up my horse arena at night. what are some things I should consider in terms of features that are needed in this application. Also, I don't want alot of bells and whistles, I need to keep as low cost as possible but still safe and quiet.
Living on the coast and surviving hurricane Ike I did learn a thing or two about generators. The cheap ones are just that. Cheap. If you want one that will last a while go with a name you recognize like Coleman or Honda. (both great, but Honda is the king) And only buy one with just the power that you need. For some reason, a big generator- say 6000 watts will go through twice as much gas as two 3000 watt generators! No idea why. Look it up if ya want. Totally true. So you are talking about 3000 watts that you need. If all you are using is lights you wont need to worry about start-up surge. You know how they say it's a 3000 watt gen with like 3250 peak? That is because if you are running a motor like a fridge or air conditioner they will need extra oomph to get the ball rolling. Those appliances will surge higher than the amount of watts they need just to run, then they come back down. Lights don't so much do this. I know, it's confusing. Just get a good 3000 watter or just a little more in case they exaggerate a bit about the output. It happens. But probably not with a good one. P.S. I have studied long and hard to find the best way to reduce the noise. If the volume is a concern, the most effective and cheapest thing you can do is to just dig a hole 2ft deep and put the generator in it. Or in your case you could put hay bales around it, or both. OH! And you can get one that requires a gas /oil mix which is a pain in the butt, but they don't require adding oil. If you go with a gas one you must watch your oil level or risk burning up the engine. I went with gas/oil mix because if I'm using a generator I am in a crisis and might forget to check the oil.
Q:I have been researching EV cars and conversions and am wondering about using a generator instead of batteries. I am not an enviro-nut concerned about making an emission free vehicle, just one that is cheap to drive. It seems to me that using a generator to power the motor, although it would use gas, would be way more efficient than a normal gas engine that is in a car, and would be lighter than batteries. Also, if it is a diesel generator I could run bio-diesel to cut back on emissions. Am I correct in this assumption?
You would be losing efficiency each time you transferred energy. Let's say a generator is 50% efficient (that is, half the energy contained in the fuel is transferred), then the electric motor is 50% efficient. Now you are already only getting 25% efficiency from the fuel. You lose efficiency because of various factors including friction and resistance. If you could get 100% efficiency, then you have just invented perpetual motion.

I've access to all of the machines.which are needed in this project.i know about how the engine works.i don't know how piston rings and piston seals the combustion chamber,how to make them.how much power will my generator will generate.i wan't to make this generator for my PC.
With respect, you're actually asking how to design and build your own engine. There are entire books on the subject, and you need plenty of diagrams as well. That's far beyond the scope of an answer on here. But if all you need is a 12v regulated dc power supply why not just get a model car or boat engine and see if you can hook it up to a car alternator from a scrapped vehicle via a suitable pulley gearing? It certainly won't be quiet though, and you'll need to ensure that the engine is either fan or water cooled and that there's a suitable exhaust outlet. Model diesel engines aren't very large, but there are larger scale copies of the old British Mills engine design made in India, and also various websites which give you details or sell you plans on how to build your own. Usually they have lapped pistons so don't need the complication of piston rings.

Q:I been thinking, and it seems to me our future vehicles would be best suited with a small 1~ liter diesel engine turning a generator to power 4 electric motors at the wheels of the car/truck, just like locomotives use. Advantages would be significantly increased fuel economy, AWD, no transmission and axle weight(offset by weight of batteries, longer lasting diesel engine, easier and cheaper to repair due to small engine size, fewer moving parts, and decreased complexity, regenerative braking, significantly reduced emmissions, less noise, no idling when not moving.Seems the advantages would vastly outweigh the disadvantagesDoes anyone build such a vehicle?

Q:I am looking into using solar energy and generators for commercial use. Using the solar energy during the day is a piece of cake obviously. But I would need a backup generator for night-time use. If I were to get a commercial grade backup generator, could I essentially recharge it during the day while it is not in use? Any other suggestions that this route are welcome. Maybe even a backup storage (battery) for the the excess solar energy. Something to store the unused energy?
if you are using a classical gas or diesel powered generator there would be no need for recharging obviously if you are using a bank of batteries and a inverter to convert the DC voltage to AC, then you would need to size your solar power system large enough to both run your home and charge up the batteries so enough power would be stored for night time use and seasonal adjustments.
