The fuel consumption will be dependent upon the size of the generator and the load that is placed upon it. You should find the fuel consumption among the generator specs.

Q:I am looking for the stand by large generator 15-20kw (to use all the power on one transfer switch). The problem is that stand by generator require large propane tanks (expensive to install). I would like to find a stand by generator that i could run off gasoline and use all of it available power. I think this would the most economical solution. In case of propane/natural gas the cost of propane tank installation is significant. The diesel stand by generators are significantly more expensive. So far I have found tri-fuel13kw portable generator that has several outlets. In this case not all the power can be utilized.: Why do you need something that big? A 15kw gasoline generator is going to use 2-3 gallons per hour fully loaded and close to 1 gallon per hour at light load, and a 20 even more than that, hence you might not have to have a large propane tank but you will have a large gasoline tank. That is enough capacity to run a clothes dryer, water heater, and range (all electric of course) all at the same time. I personally got one of the Chinese 2 stroke 800w generators, its KWH per gallon performance is poor but in the winter it will run my gas furnace just fine and it only needs to be run several hours per day to keep the place above freezing. I have some batteries and inverters for lighting and I can cook with a portable propane camping stove. Since gasoline doesn't store well without going bad you will have to rotate your stock of it probably by using multiple small cans or by having a big tank and using your supply in your car and getting more as needed. Propane in a leak-free tank will store indefinitely Diesel will also store long term by occasionally treating it with fungicide and keeping any water drained off the bottom. Natural gas is obviously just piped in.

Q:i have a 7.5 onam diesel generator that runs for 15 min and shuts down i get a code 33 (overheating)I change coolant,cap and thermostat also checked air flow Still no luck.any ideas anyone: This may sound stupid, but check the belt. Make sure it's actually on there. The Onan QD's sometimes throw a belt. I have seen them break too. Make sure that's on. You may have an internal water pump issue as well - impeller fell off, etc (rare but possible). Another issue could be a blocked radiator. If your radiator is blocked with sludge, you may not even know. I usually check various spots on the block, thermostat housing and radiator while running with a infrared temperature probe to see if it's actually getting hot BUT BE CAREFUL doing that because there's a risk of damaging your unit. That's actually a last resort thing. It may just be a bad high temp switch. But make sure everything else is right first. Full radiator, belt, t-stat (you already did). Oh, I just thought - make sure you have the right temp t-stat in there. The one I have in the shop (1997 7.5 Kw HDKAJ Spec D) takes a 71 Degree C (160 degree F) one. Anything higher will set off the high temp system I believe.

Q:I Have an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with the chipset fan going at over 6000 RPM, an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ with the CPU fan at about 3000 RPM, and a GeForce 6200LE with a very high pitched fan that's dead annoying. To cut a long story short, my PC makes way more noise than it should be, now I don't have any case fans installed but that shouldn't mean that it has to make this sort of howling, believe me, if you were sitting next to it, you'd understand where I'm comin from, it's like tryin to sleep at night with a diesel generator in your room while it's downloading stuff. The fans shouldn't need to spin that fast as the average temp is about 30-40 degrees Celsius across all the components. Anyone know what I should try? For example, if I specified an ATS that had the proper voltage and current capacities, the only other item of concern would be to determine if the transfer would be a make before break or a break before make type of transfer. In a make before break, it would mean the sources would be placed into parallel operating condition before one of the sources was interrupted. This would require the ability to synchronize the sources. Which means the frequency, voltage and phase relationship of the sources must match before they are placed into parallel service. On a break before make switch, usually only phase rotation and approximate voltage levels are of concern. Hope this helps, Newton1Law

Q:I want to place a quiete genarator which is about 7kva. Will it disturb people in my apartment? We usually make a lot noise in the building. But doesn't sound a lot also?: a 7kva generator isnt even that quiet. i know they say quiet but theres only so much you can do. why do you need a generator anyways? and yeah it probably would disturb the people in your apartment.
