Q:i mean from off state to ON State,the amount of diesel it reqiures to burn out.: I have never heard. But it can't be very much. There's a primer button back in the long hood area. Priming is necessary because the fuel runs back down into the fuel tank when not running. After priming for about 6 to 10 seconds, a start switch is flipped that turns the generator into a magnetic starter motor. The engine only turns over just a couple times (usually) before it fires and is pleasantly idling on its own. Starting can't require very much fuel. On the newer GEs and EMDs with auto shut down, these starting functions are all automatic electronically of course.

Can anyone help me to understand the pros and cons of the said engines for a commercial requirement.: Air cooled: bigger, noisier, hotter, dirtier, simpler to maintain, more expensive, no freezing risk, burn more engine oil. Liquid-cooled: all the opposite than above.

Q:i have 350kw old diesel generator and want to calculate the exact consumtionption at various loads.: This can happen due to any number of reasons. 23.4 volt is not a low voltage to start the engine that expects to work on 24 volt. But the battery may not be charged well, even then it shows 23.4 volts, because you are testing it without load. So connect some resistance (that should take same current as the starter motor current) and then check the voltage. If voltage drops to severely,then the battery is discharged or has problems like dry condition, or battery life over etc. If battery is good, then check for any loose connection up to the motor terminals. Other problems could be in the burnt motor or heavy load due to mechanical defect on the IC engine (check whether the diesel engine flywheel can be rotated smoothly- without connecting to motor- but this is possible only in small generators)

Q:I may soon have to relocate to a place where the electricity is infrequent but my livelihood depends on the internet. my plan is to access the internet through the telephone and run the computer on a diesel generator and also an inverter. is it possible, what precautions should i take to make this work. will this plan work.: It's possible but I wouldn't recommend it for long periods of time, especially if the generator is unreliable. If it's going to go out frequently, that could hurt your computer (and your livelihood) in the long run. Probably smartest investment you could make would be solar panels. You don't have to buy expensive fuel for your generator that way.

Q:I have a new Onan 10k diesel generator engine and an old isuzu pickup truck not worth engine replacement cost. Can this small diesel be adapted to fit the manual transmission?: Anything is possible, but Is it practical? Probably not. Can you do all the work? I hope so, because the amount it would cost in labor to do it would be much more than rebuilding or replacing what you have now.

Q:and what would allow the most crop turnovers of growth? Hemp???: yes as long as the generator has been retro-fitted to use biofuel and not petroleum. A diesel generator would do this best Probably algae would be the best thing to use as you can get several generations a month from it. hemp takes a long season to grow and really only the seeds would have enough sugar to be used to distill biofuel. Beets (which you can get several crops a season from as they are fairly fast growing) would be far better than hemp for fuel as you want high sugar or starch crops (starch can be converted to sugar). But why run a generator on biofuels when it would be easier to run it on solar or wind

Q:I bought an old moving truck that I only want for storage. It will be parked on my off grid property. I would like to rig it to run a generator that could charge up a large bank of batteries for when my solar isn't collecting enough power. I know it can be done but I'm curious first, how to do it, and second, if it's worth doing? Thank you very much for your input.: Yea, mount up 1 or 2 more alternators, I assume you'll already have the charging electronics to go with your battery bank. The electricity from the alternators is already 12V, which is wholly usable by a battery bank. You could even set this up so that the engine automatically turns on when the amperage drops below a certain level.
