Product Description

Aluminium is remarkable for the metal's low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are important in other areas of transportation and structural materials. The most useful compounds of aluminium, at least on a weight basis, are the oxides and sulfates.

Despite its prevalence in the environment, no known form of life uses aluminium salts metabolically. In keeping with its pervasiveness, aluminium is well tolerated by plants and animals. Owing to their prevalence, potential beneficial (or otherwise) biological roles of aluminium compounds are of continuing interest.

The earliest citation given in the Oxford English Dictionary for any word used as a name for this element is alumium, which British chemist and inventor Humphry Davy employed in 1808 for the metal he was trying to isolate electrolytically from the mineral alumina. The citation is from the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London: "Had I been so fortunate as to have obtained more certain evidences on this subject, and to have procured the metallic substances I was in search of, I should have proposed for them the names of silicium, alumium, zirconium, and glucium."

Q:Will aluminum bike frame rust?
Aluminum does not rust, it will oxidize if exposed to the open air if the paint is scratched off. The oxidation will protect against any more damage and is stopped in it's tracks. Other aluminum parts will not rust but the mounting hardware may if it's made from low quality materials. On nuts and bolts you can put some chain oil on the tip of a rag and wipe these parts down every one in a while. On things like cables I use Tri Flow, it lubricates and protects against rust.
Q:WIFFLE BALL bats have you ever used a ALUMINUM WIFFLE BALL bat?
I did her like this I did her like that I did it with a wiffle ball bat
Q:Calculate the mass in grams of iodine (I2) that will react completely with 43.7 g of aluminum (Al) to form alu?
Aluminum Iodide is AlI3 - one aluminum atom bonded to three Iodine atoms. Look up the atomic weight of Aluminum. Look up the atomic weight of Iodine. Al / 43.7g =3 X Iodine / mass Mass of Iodine required = 43.7 X Atomic weight of Iodine X 3 / Atomic weight of Aluminum
Q:Why do tin/aluminium cans have grooves in the side?
If they didn't, they would easily be crushed during shipment. It makes them much stronger to have the grooves. Norrie's got a good point.
Q:Deodorant and Aluminum ?
It's probably an anti-perspirant, right? That blocks sweat glands and is not healthy for you; not sure about the baby. You should only use deodorant - not anti-perspirant.
Q:Is lead more active than aluminum?
Aluminum is more active than lead. You should double check your activity data table. If you confirm that the table says that lead is more active than aluminum, the table is in error.
Q:why is copper better than aluminum?
Copper is: -harder to oxidize -more ductile -better conductor of electricity -has a longer 'lifespan'
Q:what are the safety precautions in handling Aluminum?
Aluminum as a solid is very safe; although non-nutritious (your body does not require it), its accumulation in tissues is apparently not directly harmful. Individuals who work years of their lives in handling aluminum have no higher incidence of Alzheimer's disease than those that do not. As a powder- particularly very fine powders- aluminum is extremely hazardous with respect to its combustibility, and is used in fireworks (sparklers, for example). When it burns, it is extremely hot, and extinguishing it should not be attempted without training and the correct tools- usually salt or Purple K extinguishing agent. However, it burns so quickly that it will usually be out before attempts can be made.
Q:melting aluminum?
aluminum, in general, will just oxidize if heated in air. it is not just cans that behave that way when they (alcan, alcoa) smelt aluminum industrially they keep it in a reducing environment and do not allow molten aluminum to contact air. so use any aluminum you like but prevent it from contacting air.
Q:Aluminum vs Carbon Fiber?
I would like to add to Steel Head's statement that fiber abrasion can also have very negative effects. When aluminum abrades it becomes a lubricant.
