Description:
The hot dip metallic coating process is also used to manufacture steel sheet and coil with coatings of aluminium, or alloy coatings of zinc/aluminium, the coating which may also be factory pre-painted. While GI may sometimes be used as a collective term for various hot dip metallic coated steels, it more precisely refers only to zinc coated steel. Similarly, PPGI may sometimes be used as a general term for a range of metallic coated steels that have been pre-painted, but more often refers more precisely to pre-painted zinc coated steel. Zinc coated steel substrate for PPGI is typically produced on a continuous galvanising line.

- Q:I know copper pots are supposed to be really good for cooking with, and I have been looking around online. One thing I don't want to do, however, is send them in to be re-lined with tin. So I was wondering if stainless steel lined copper pots work as well as the traditional tin lined ones, or if those make the copper just for looks.
- Stainless is a fairly poor conductor but that is not why it has hot spots. That's because they tend to be thin. Cast Iron is also a poor conductor and has about the most even heat distribution. Many Copper bottom pots are just Copper plated for looks. In fact only the most expensive will have the heavy Copper bottom needed for even heat. Tin is a metal, an element. Stainless Steel is a mixture ( alloy ) of Iron and Chromium or Nickel or both. I do not know of any cookware that is Tin plated on the inside. I like Aluminium clad Stainless Steel. Good heavy bottom for even heat and Al. is a good conductor. A little more expensive are three layer bottoms. They have the Al. between Stainless so you get the looks and easy cleaning os SS with the heat distribution of Al.
- Q:Hi all.I'm working on a project which requires about 3 steel pipes at 25mm in diametre and about a foot each in length. The qualities I need with the steel is that:1. I need it to be easy enough to weld together2. I need to be able to drill holes through them with a basic drill (I could buy different bits, that's fine)3. I need the steel to be able to take short intense repeated bursts of strain through said holes4. The lighter the steel the better5. Could I please have a ballpark figure for price. I can't imagine such a small amount of steel would cost too muchThank you in advance for your replyRegardsSean
- For a structural product you want tubing instead of pipe. ERW (Electric resistance welded) steel tubing is generally a fairly good compromise between cost and strength. They are available in various wall thicknesses for either lighter weight or greater strength. DOM (dimensioned over mandrel) tubing generally uses a stronger steel allow and is more dimensionally uniform but the cost is much higher. These products are probably available at a local steel supplier. They are both mild steel so they can be arc welded or brazed with ease. Strength of these steel alloys is generally about 70,000 psi so you need to analyze the specific applied stress over the specific surface area to determine what wall thickness you need. If you are applying tension or compression to pins in holes in the tubing, you could braze in hardened steel bushings. You would bore a larger hole in the tubing in which to insert the bushing. Bushings would distribute the force over a significantly larger surface area and the holes will not tend to elongate.
- Q:How do steel coils impact the overall cost of production?
- The overall cost of production in various industries is greatly affected by steel coils. Initially, the expense of the steel coils themselves can be quite significant. The price of steel is influenced by several factors, including supply and demand, raw material costs, and market fluctuations. Any increase in the price of steel coils can directly impact the overall cost of production, as they are a major component in the manufacturing process. Furthermore, the operational costs of production are also influenced by steel coils. These coils are commonly used in different manufacturing processes, such as stamping, rolling, and forming, which require specialized machinery. The efficiency and effectiveness of these processes greatly depend on the durability, quality, and size of the steel coils. If the coils are of low quality or not suitable for the specific production requirements, it can result in increased downtime, machinery maintenance, and rework, all contributing to higher production costs. Additionally, the transportation costs associated with steel coils can impact the overall cost of production. Steel coils are typically heavy and bulky, requiring special handling and transportation arrangements. The logistics costs can be significantly influenced by factors such as the distance between the supplier and the production facility, as well as the chosen mode of transportation. Any rise in transportation expenses, such as fuel prices or shipping fees, can directly affect the overall cost of production. Lastly, the availability of steel coils can also impact production costs. During periods of high demand or limited supply, the price of steel coils may increase, resulting in higher production costs. Moreover, if there is a shortage of steel coils due to trade restrictions or disruptions in the supply chain, manufacturers may have to resort to alternative materials or sources, which could be more expensive or of lower quality. These factors can have a ripple effect on the overall cost of production. In conclusion, steel coils have a significant impact on the overall cost of production. Their cost, quality, transportation, and availability all influence the efficiency, effectiveness, and affordability of the manufacturing process. Therefore, manufacturers must carefully consider and manage these factors to optimize their production costs and maintain competitiveness in their respective industries.
- Q:Why can hot rolled coils be placed outside?
- Because the stress of participation should be eliminated
- Q:What are the common methods of protecting steel coils from corrosion during storage?
- To safeguard steel coils from corrosion during storage, there are multiple commonly employed techniques. These methods aim to shield the steel coils from moisture and other environmental factors that could trigger corrosion. 1. VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) Packaging: VCI packaging is extensively utilized for steel coil protection. It incorporates VCI materials into the packaging, such as plastic bags or films. These materials emit a vapor that forms a protective layer on the surface of the steel coils, effectively preventing the intrusion of moisture and corrosive agents. 2. Oil Coating: Another widely adopted approach involves applying a thin layer of oil onto the steel coil surface. This oil acts as a barrier, obstructing the contact between the steel and moisture or oxygen. It proves particularly effective for long-term storage or transportation situations. 3. Desiccants: Silica gel packets or similar desiccants can be placed inside the packaging to absorb any trapped moisture. By reducing humidity levels within the packaging, the risk of corrosion is minimized. This method is often combined with VCI packaging or oil coating. 4. Proper Ventilation: Adequate ventilation is crucial to prevent moisture buildup around the steel coils during storage. By facilitating the free circulation of air, humidity levels are reduced, and the formation of condensation, which can lead to corrosion, is prevented. 5. Controlled Environment: Storing steel coils in a controlled environment is an effective corrosion prevention measure. This entails maintaining constant temperature and humidity levels that are unfavorable for corrosion. Temperature and humidity control can be achieved using air conditioning or dehumidification systems. It should be noted that the choice of specific protection methods or combinations thereof depends on various factors, including storage duration, environmental conditions, and specific steel coil requirements. Regular inspections and maintenance are also vital to ensure ongoing corrosion protection.
- Q:What are the different types of steel coil edge conditioning methods?
- There are several different types of steel coil edge conditioning methods, including slitting, trimming, chamfering, deburring, and edge rolling. Slitting involves cutting the coil into narrower strips, while trimming removes any excess material from the edges. Chamfering is the process of creating a beveled edge, while deburring removes any burrs or sharp edges. Edge rolling is another method used to smooth and shape the edges of the steel coil.
- Q:Will a 1 inch thick A36 steel target withstand a 7.62x54r round?
- it depends on the type of steel. If it's soft steel it may stop the round, but leave a craterthat can causeirregular ricochets. If it's hardened steel (AR500 for example), the bullet will just 'splash' and fragment into little bits. It's better to shoot thin steel so the round goes through than shoot thick soft steel thatforms a crater. No matter what type you're shooting, put it no closer than 100 yards for a full power jacketed round. Try to hang the plateso it is angledslightly towards the ground so anymajor ricochets are directed into the ground and not up or back towards you.
- Q:Can steel coils be coated with fluorescent materials?
- Yes, steel coils can be coated with fluorescent materials.
- Q:How are steel coils used in the production of steel hooks?
- Steel coils are used in the production of steel hooks as they provide the raw material needed for shaping, forming, and manufacturing the hooks. The coils are unwound, processed, and then transformed into the desired shape and size to create the steel hooks.
- Q:I am currently writing a manuscript, and would like to know whether guns made out of steel, burn or melt when exposed to flames. Thanks.
- Yes they melt and rather easily. Guns are made by melting steel and many police departments destroy confiscated guns by melting them.
