Q:Why is iron stronger than steel?
This Site Might Help You. RE: Why is iron stronger than steel? I was watching a documentary on the samurai vs the European knight. It said that the when Japan was being invaded by the (cant remember) they needed a new weapon. The enemies armor made iron swords useless. While steel swords broke when in combat. So to combat this the Japanese made a hybrid...
Q:Stainless steel or aluminum for campfire cooking?
Stainless steel. And you do NOT have to ruin the pan on a campfire. Carry some liquid dishwashing liquid (which you will want anyway). BEFORE putting the pan onto the fire, smear some dishwashing liquid on the OUTSIDE of your pan: bottom AND the sides. As the pan sits on the fire, the SOAP will blacken and soot up instead of the pan. When you wash the pan, the soot slips off with the soap you applied beforehand. If you don't coat the outside of your pan with dishwashing liquid, it will soot up and the soot does not wash off.
Q:How can you stain iron/steel MECHANICALLY?
Funny! 100!
Q:Who invented the steel windmill?
The Steel Eclipse Type WG was the first of several self-oiling steel windmills marketed by Fairbanks, Morse, and Company after they became the distributor of all the Eclipse mills about the start of the 20th Century. It has the more important distinction of having been the only widely distributed worm-gear mill in the history of American windmill manufacture. Produced from about 1926 to the mid-1930's, the Steel Eclipse remains in the field today in considerable number in most parts of the country. Hope this helps!
Q:types of stainless steel?
Types of stainless steel There are over 150 grades of stainless steel, of which fifteen are most common. The AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute) defines the following grades among others: - 200 Series—austenitic iron-chromium-nickel-manganese alloys - 300 Series—austenitic iron-chromium-nickel alloys Type 301—highly ductile, for formed products. Also hardens rapidly during mechanical working. Type 303—free machining version of 304 via addition of sulfur Type 304—the most common; the classic 18/8 stainless steel Type 316—Alloy addition of molybdenum to prevent specific forms of corrosion - 400 Series—ferritic and martensitic alloys.
Q:******Prefabricated Steel Buildings********?
its faster to build with prefabricated steel materials. if its cheaper or not...im not really sure. but definitely faster
Q:What is lighter, stronger, and cheaper to buy? Carbon Fiber or High Tensile Steel?
In terms of strength/weight ratio then carbon fiber is excellent. However in terms of strength/cost then steels is better. With strength/weight then you save money in the long run (less fuel usage) but with strength/cost ratio you save money immediately when the car is made. So it's a complex tradeoff that has to do with your time-value of money.
Q:is stainless steel plated or alloyed/mixed?
stainless steel is an alloy normally iron with additions of C, Mn, Ni, Cr, and Nb - amounts added depend on properties required. Corrosion resistance is due to a very thin but dense layer of chromium oxide which forms at the surface and prevents further attack. Ordinary steel on the other hand becomes coated with a porous layer of iron oxide(rust) through which the atmosphere can pass and cause further corrosion.
Q:Engineering Materials - tool steel question?
It all depends what the application actually is. For hammers I would select a hammer grade B1 steel. For impact loading where an edge is needed I would be going for O1 or similar (oil quenching steels tend to be a little tougher than air hardening). For mining tools a very high manganese steel (Hadfields steel) - this is not a true tool steel. The best place to start is by looking at the ranking of the properties which you want - hardness v toughness v strength - and then use this to put the steels in rank order. Price and availablity then sort the problem out for you (in the real world).
Q:Is clorox safe to clean stainless steel?
