Q:Can you put steel strings on a nylon-string guitar?
It will permanently ruin the guitars neck. Acoustic guitars have an adjustable metal rod in them called a “Truss Rod” that allows the neck to withstand steel string tension. How about putting on high tension nylon strings ?
Q:Steel shafted woods vs Graphite woods?
Steel shafts will provide more accuracy, but they are much heavier than graphite (obviously). They have extremely low torque ratios which allows them to be more accurate. However, you need to have a very fast, controlled swing to be successful with steel shafted woods. Notice that only a few PGA Tour pros have them.
Q:Better Movie: Man of Steel or Captain America; The First Avenger?
Captain America: The First Avenger -- Mostly because it was a rousing, entertaining, old-school adventure film, plus it was true to the character of Steve Rogers/Captain America. Man of Steel, IMO, had a poor script, tinkered way too much with one of the great superhero origin stories and was not at all true to the character. Historically Superman has always been a symbol of heroism, proud, strong, beaming. But what we got in that movie was an utterly cheerless, dour automaton devoid of any kind of charisma or presence. Q:what is stronger Tempered Steel Blade or Carbon Steel Blade?
1. all steel blades are tempered, whether they are high carbon blades or low carbon blades. 2. It depends on what kind of steel they are made from. So im going to answer this question, using the following qualifications. 440A stainless steel 440C stainless steel - high carbon. The higher the carbon level, the more brittle a blade becomes. But the higher the carbon level, will increase a steel’s wear resistance , meaning it will have a better edge retention 2. They both will work well. Pros's / Con's The 440C blades will need less sharpening, but are harder to sharpen The 4401 blades will need to be sharpened more, but are far easier to resharpen. So it basically comes down to where you will be using them and how you will be using them. If your gonna be out in the middle of the jungle and stopping for the night, then the high carbon blade would probably be better, you use it all day, resharpen it at night. If your gonna be cutting brush, tobbaco, etc on your land, then the 440A would be better, because you can take a couple of min's to resharpen it often
Q:Magnet will not stick to stainless steel?
That's interesting that it caused deflection in the compass. A lot of stainless steels may be SLIGHTLY magnetic, because they have small amounts of ferrite or alpha-iron in them. Ferrite is one of the crystal phases of steel. It has a body-centered cubic (BCC) structure and it's responsible for the magnetism of ordinary steels. Adding certain elements like nickel, manganese, or molybdenum, changes the crystal structure of the steel to a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure, which is NOT magnetic. This crystal phase is known as Austenite or gamma-iron. However most iron alloys contain some impurities that may cause the steel to be not completely transformed into the FCC austenite phase, small areas remain as ferrite.
Q:how to wash/clean stainless steel fridge?
Quite a few companies make stainless steel cleaners. Don't use Windex, I was told when we bought our stainless fridge and stove. Go to Home Depot or a store like it and I am sure they will have some to choose from. I bought these pre-treated wipes for Stainless Steel at Bath Beyond (like Lysol makes) and they work wonders for a quick cleaning. Linens N Things also has some wipes.
Q:How difficult is it to harden steel?
It kind of depends on the application. It can be anywhere from simple to very difficult depending on what exactly you are talking about. Hardening a small piece of carbon tool steel for a chisel or punch consists of simply heating it till its red hot and then quenching it in water. This is done after the tool is formed. Hardening also means making the steel brittle, so it must be tempered after hardening to make it hard and strong. Hardening large or huge pieces like that used for equipment is done at the foundry, where they have equipment to do such a job.
Q:stainless steel wall ties?
`You are not asking why they are stainless steel, but the function of wall ties. During construction of a house the wall ties start at damp proof course level. At all reveals ie doors /windows, one tie is placed on every 3rd course of bricks and 6 back from the reveal. Thereafter in the main run of brickwork 1 tie is placed every metre distance, starting at the DPC and the 6th course then the 12th and so on. They are not placed directly above each other, but in a sort of pyramid fashion. Their purpose is to hold the 2 skins of walling together, thus doubling the strength of the cavity wall in a very effective way. Stainless steel is a better quality of tie, but are not really necessary these days, because the cavity is insulated. In the old days you got condensation in the cavity and the ties rusted, and as a result of this disintegration you got bulging walls where one wall fell away from the other. Stainless steel lasted much longer because they did not rust so easily.
Q:Steel reinforced armor.?
I don't think that would work. First off, there's not enough carbon in steel - even very high carbon steels are only about 2% carbon. Second, the iron atoms in steel form a crystal lattice, in the shape of a cube, with another iron atom in the middle of the cube. Each cube is about 0.3 nm per side. Carbon atoms work their way into the crystals and displace the iron atoms. But a carbon nanotube is around 1 nanometer in diameter - that's 3 times as big as the iron lattice! So a nanotube wouldn't fit. One thing you might do, however, is make a composite - mix the materials together on a scale a little bigger than the atomic scale that the iron and carbon mix to make steel. Just like a carbon fiber bicycle frame or ski pole is strands of carbon (much bigger and not as strong as nanotubes) held together with epoxy, you could hold nanotube strands together with metal. Not sure it would be good for armor, but if you can figure out a way to do it, I'm sure someone will come up with a use for it!
Q:What metals contain steel?
Metals do not contain steel. Steel is an alloy of purified iron and carbon, and sometimes with other metals, such as nickel, chromium, or molybdenum to make it stainless or to change its hardness or other properties. It's like asking what cereals contain Cheerios. It doesn't really make sense. Other metal alloys contain iron, which is an element and the main ingredient of steel. Maybe you should be asking which metal alloys contain iron? That's more like asking which cereals contain whole grain oats. Now that's a question that can be answered by reading the ingredients labels on your standard boxes of metal alloys :-)
