The max voltage from a psu is only 12 volts so unless you touch the inside on the mains current you will be perfectly safe without the gloves. I have constructed dozens of pc's and never ever had a shock from any yet!! As I believe you are in the USA your mains voltage is only 110volts anyway so that should be safer than the UK at 240v.
